For the 2nd straight year, Bella Alarie has been named to the 20 person watch list for the McClain Award, which goes to the nation's top power forward. https://goprincetontigers .com/news/2018/10/24/wome... In mid-February, the list will be cut down to 10 and then it will go to 5 in March. Alarie got some support from Carly Grenfell of High Post Hoops. https://highposthoops.com/2018/10/27/could-a-mi d-m... - Princeton’s Bella Alarie is another one with many ‘first team’ descriptions attached to her name. The junior is a two-time First Team All-Ivy League selection, was tabbed the 2017-18 Ivy League Player of the Year as a sophomore and earned Rookie of the Year honors as a freshman. Standing at 6’4″, Alarie averaged nearly a double-double at 12.4 points her game and 9.4 rebounds last season. The 283 rebounds she pulled down in the 2017-18 campaign rank third most in a single-season in Princeton history. - |

Abby Meyers is not listed on the Princeton roster. Does anyone know what the story is? |

That's interesting. She does not appear on the school's directory. It is possible that she has left the school, as well as the team. If she's no longer with the team, that's a big loss for the Tigers. |

The Trentonian reports Alarie will be missing the first part of the season due to a broken right arm she suffered in practice a few weeks ago. https://www.trentonian.com/sports/princeton-wome n-... Also, Meyers is having to leave for the year due to a problem with a class from last year. - Sophomore Abby Meyers had what Banghart termed a "misunderstanding" in her computer science course that violated university policy and will have to take a separation year. - |

Thank goodness -- Alarie is starting tonight. Hopefully, Llewellyn is playing tomorrow. Alarie is so good that she changes the make up of the team. Quinnipac is good and has played inghe NCAA tournmament for several consecutive years. |

Although rusty and against a good opponent, Alarie finished with 16 points, 19 rebounds, 2 - blocks, steals, assists. Is she free to play at MSG tomorrow as fifth starter? |

Since her return from injury, Bella is now 3 for 3 as to Player of the Week award after winning 6 times last year. She is a significantly better player than last year when she was POY as a sophomore. Averaging 20/10 with 5 blocks per game and 3 assists. Dominant and special player. Tigers return a starter and top reserve who have been out with injuries other than playing one game. Unfortunate that they did not have all hands on deck when playing top 25 teams earlier in the year but Harvard men knows what it feels like regarding injuries. Could be legitimate top 25 team next year. |

After 3 quarters at Columbia, Alarie has 39 points, 12 rebounds and 3 blocks. The announcer just said that the 39 points is a single game record for Princeton. She is 18-26. The rest of the team is 7-27. Princeton is ahead 63-50 after they were up by only 1 or 2 midway through the quarter. |

Just broke IL record with 45 points. Tigers did not play very good with the obvious exception of Bella and Littlefield. Bella will be crazy good for the remainder of her Tiger career. |

A really amazing performance. The former record of 43 was held by Dartmouth's Gail Koziara (Boudreaux). |

The former record of 43 was held by Dartmouth's Gail Koziara (Boudreaux). So.....Alarie will have a son who plays basketball at Princeton, then leaves early to play for a school whose president is a Dartmouth grad. |

45 points on 20-28 shooting with 14 rebounds and 4 blocks -- Bill Bradley type of performance. She is a total team player as well. probable 3x IL POY. |

Tigers up by 26 after 3 quarters 59-33. Allarie line 21 pts, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 blocks after 3 quarters -- off night after last night? |

Bella was named to the top 5 starting team NATIONALLY for the past week as well as the USBWA Player of the week which are prestigious awards. She accomplished a Bill Bradley like performance. Other than Bradley, she is the only Tiger that has scored over 40 points in a game. For the weekend, she averaged 33 points, 12 rebounds, 3.5 blocks, and 3 assists while playing only 27 minutes in the blow out at Cornell. It would not be surprising as she continues to rise as she is post-injury. Special player that will get serious attention as a senior next year with the supporting cast around her. May turn out to be the 2nd best all time Tiger BB player at the end of the day. |

Brad: I can deal with you taking his name; but don't compare any NCAA player of today to the kid from Missouri. Why not just write that she reminds you in a favorable way of her father, Mark? |

I don't think he's comparing her to Bill Bradley, just that her accomplishments are at a Bradley like level. The consensus seems to be that the player to compare her with is Elena Della Donne(sp?). |

Yes, Delle Donne is the spelling, and you offer a most apt comparison. I remember Sparky Anderson, managing the world champion Cincinnati Reds in 1976 to a sweep against my NYY, and telling the press after the final game that he wouldn't embarrass any man by comparing him to the Reds generational catcher at the time- John Bench. That's how it was with Johnny Bench, one of the five greatest catchers in MLB history; and that's how it was with Bill Bradley, one of the five greatest NCAA men's basketball players, ever- FACT, and nobody knows that better than Bradley, the writer; one of our smartest regular contributors (smart enough, in fact, to ignore me quite well!) |

Bella is now averaging 29 pts per game with 13 rebounds in IL play. Her scoring average is 11 pts higher than 2nd place and 3 rebounders higher per game. She is #2 in blocked shots and top 10 in assists, steals, FG avg (#2) and FT% (#5). She is simply a dominant player but unfortunately her teammates have yet to step up in IL play. Other team announcers are basically stunned as to the quality of her play on road games. Because she missed the first 9 games, her stats will not meet the minimum NCAA game played standards. If she had enough games, she would be top ten in the nation in a number of categories. If she stays healthy and gets some support, the Tiger women will be a force. She plays tonight against a reasonably good Columbia team that yielded 45 pts to her (IL women's record) at Columbia. |

She went down painfully late in the Columbia game, but was able to get back on the court for the last couple of minutes of the game. Looked like she was walking around with an ice pack on her ankle during the men’s game. Hoping she’s 100% by Tuesday. |

Bella was not able to practice yesterday due to lingering injury from Columbia game but true to form she stepped up when the Tigers needed her. She finished 33/10/3 blocks. She is such a special player with the gifts of a guard in a 6'4" athletic frame. Her Dad did a great job in developing her skills and being a team player. I have a lot of respect for the Penn coach and team but Courtney and the team had this date circled for a payback. The Tigers talked about this rematch in postgame interviews over the past two weekends so you could anticipate that they would be locked in. The irony is that the first place team may play the home team in IvyMadness but welcome to IvyMadness. If the Tigers lost tonight, they probably would have played Harvard in game #1 of IvyMadness but it is always good to beat the Quakerites. |

Congratulations on tonight's win. Alarie again showed that she is the best in the league - by far. Last year, Coach Banghart was vocal in her displeasure at having to face Penn on their homecourt during the Ivy Tournament and that was in a year where her team was the strongest by far. It will be interesting to hear how she feels about playing Yale at the JLA with the distance from #1 through #4 much closer than it was last season. |

She will not like it playing Yale at Yale but she is not a big fan of IvyMadness, especially playing a road game as a #1 seed because she has some common sense and a willingness to speak out. The only good news is that Yale beat Princeton so there will probably be a payback for Yale like Penn last night although unfortunately, Princeton plays Yale during the last weekend of the regular season. It would be much more strategic to have the payback in the first round of the absurdity of IvyMadness. Bella, as a Junior, is the most dominant IL player, male or female. If she is healthy next year, the numbers may be even crazier than 26 pts/12 rebounds/4 assists/ 3 blocks per game. There is a reason why she made the final 10 list for top frontcourt women's player even though she missed 9 games. |

Coach Banghart said on her most recent Court Report show that Ivy League rules allow the home team to make the decision about when to play the game. Since Princeton will get the second game next year, she said that she will have it on a Saturday, since it is physically difficult to end up playing 5 games in 9 days. With regards to the Ivy Tournament announcement - If the decision has been made not to have it at the #1 seed, then she feels it should be played at all of the schools. |

5-0 in 9 days including wins against Penn at the Palestra and home at Harvard. Harvard played very hard and they are good. Whowever has the second seed does not want to play Harvard so the Tigers need to finish out with wins next weekend. Alarie finished 19/10 but Littlefied stepped up this weekend big time. Four of the starters played 37 minutes or more in the 5th game in 9 days. Tigers are not dominant but they are tough and they have Alarie and Banghart. |

Bella receives her 7th IL POW award this year and 16th of her career after she averages 21/10 in 3 victories over Penn, Dartmouth and Harvard. She is 5 away from the all time women's record. She has been working with Littlefied to dunk a basketball in a game. Most experts believe that she will be playing in the WNBA with the only other IL player, Blake Dietrick although she has one more year to go. |

Not an unusal night for Bella: 19 pts on 8 of 16 shooting 14 rebounds 4 steals 3 blocks 3 steals Littlefield has come to life at end of season but not sure if Bella has enough support this year to go all the way but nothing would be surprising when it comes to her. |

Bella is not only the most dominant player in the IL but probably the highest draft choice amongst all players in the IL, men or women. Many experts believe that she will be playing in the WNBA. Plus, she has one year to go and the supporting cast for the Tigers next year should be improved with the return of Abby Myers and the seasoning of this year's frosh. Banghart will turn Bella loose next year in non-conference play. |

If the Tigers can get thru IvyMadnes, which will be very challenging, they are shown as being a #13 seed going against Dawn Staley S.C. Gamecocks. The Tigers had a disastrous start 2-7 without Bella but they played against crazy tough competition, 3 top #25 teams. It would be interesting to see Bella go against top flight competition although there are only two very good players that surround her. Next year will be the push year if she remains healthy for an entire season and the women could receive two bids. |

Bella is named POY for the second straight year. She has the opportunity to something historic next year by becoming a 3 time POY and 4 time 1st team All Ivy. She finished the IL season with 24.5/11.7 with the second highest FG and FT%. She was second in blocked shots, 6th in assists and 9th in steals. Hopefully, she can lead the Tigers to a NCAAW Tournament appearance this year and take the Tigers back to a place where they were several years ago with Blake Dietrick next year. She does need some additional support from teammates other than Littlefield. |

Bella received honorable mention for the AP Women's basketball team. Very few mid-major players receive this type of recognition and she may be the first Junior IL women's player to receive the award. It will be interesting to see if she can make the first, second or third team next year -- it is possible. |

Bella received an invitation to try out for the Pan American team in mid-May. It would obviously be a plus if she made the team to raise her game for Tiger BB next year. In a recent 2020 WNBA mock draft, she is listed as the 6th pick in round 1. Draftsite has her listed as a SF/PF. Based on her game, (inside/out and ball skills) for a 6'4" player, she has a unique skill set. Question may be is Bella tough enough for WNBA competition. Time will tell. Unlikely that she can beat the bar of Bill Bradley, 1st round - 3rd pick. |
