I don't think they are useless especially when you've lost a top player for the season and you're trying to get some newbies and others that haven't had extensive PT in past years comfortable on the court. Perhaps top 50 teams think playing Ivy League teams useless. Note that Big 10 teams are playing 20 in conference games this year. I think you'll see this trend proliferating in the power conferences. It's going to be harder and harder to schedule name opponents in the future. They'd rather beat each other up in front of 20,000 fans than play a mid major in what they probably consider to be nothing more than a filler game. We obviously view such a game much differently. |
