ESPN just wrote about the rising players of certain pro prospects and called out Miye Oni as moving up to #57 (from #80). |

Wow. The Ivy League is finally getting some respect. He sure is looking better this season already. He fits the NBA type of game better than anyone in the IL. He was phenomenal against Miami and started well against Duke before getting in foul trouble. Maybe his exposure will make IL games "must watch" TV. Any other IL players on the list? |

Great articles. It obviously highlights the fact that there are still some huge inefficiencies in the recruiting process, often due to differing timelines of how players develop. |

We also have to give credit to James Jones for Oni's recruitment when he was an unknown commodity and developing him. I cannot imagine what Williams College (currently ranked #2) would have become had he stayed D3. The Ivy League is finally getting some respect at the next level. |

Actually you gotta give credit to Matt Kingsley who found Miye. He is another example of a high quality Ivy assistant who rarely gets noticed and makes his HC look really good. |

True. As the article stated, he contacted Oni's dad to setup a visit. It's impressive how the coaching staff was able to convince his family after just over an hour of unofficial visit. What a perfect fit for both sides. |

"But Division III schools can't offer scholarships and Oni and his family soon decided they needed more financial aid than Williams could offer. "The tuition for Williams was over $60,000 and they weren't really giving us that much help on it," Oni recalled. "So my family literally could not pay." Oni's parents, Oludotun and Opeyemi, are Nigerian. His father is a Professor at University of Phoenix and also an engineer. (Miye's full name is Olumiye.) The financial aid people at Williams suggested, somewhat sarcastically Oni thought, that his family consider the Ivy League because those schools are obviously strong academically but can also offer better financial aid packages." You have to love the burn there, given how it turned out. Take that, Williams. Also shows the importance of endowments and their impact on financial aid in Ivy recruiting. |

From the Forbes article: "Oni even attended Elite Camps at Stanford, Cornell and Penn. He really wanted to attend Cornell because his older sister, Oluwatoniloba, went to school there, 'but the coaches never recruited me.'" {heavy sigh} |

Makai Mason, Oni's predecessor, leads the Baylor Bears (12-6) in minutes per game (32), scoring average (15.7) after scoring 29 points last night in a win against West Virginia University. He is the same height but has bulked up and he has Baylor on a really good recent run. Baylor Coach Scott Drew watched him burn Baylor at the Big Dance several years ago and wanted him on his team. IL would have been different if he had played last year in all likelihood. He is a very talented and smart player. |

There is no question in my mind that if Yale had Bruner and Mason healthy last year that the Eli's would likely have won the regular season. Tournament - with HCA - is always more complicated but Yale would have been the favorite. |

It's all speculation but I think with Bruner and Mason Yale would have competed for the IL. To say "no question" they would have won is a stretch. Those two are great players but adding them would not have created some sort of massive separation from Harvard and Penn. |

Well, a healthy Towns was POY and Bell DPOY. You really think Yale would have been head and shoulders better than Harvard last year with Bruner and Mason? We can differ all you want but we have to agree its speculation at best. |

Not ‘head and shoulders’, but I would make Yale the favorite. The combination of healthy Mason and Bruner are game changers IMHO. |

I agree they are game changers. Y There's a big difference between calling them the favorite with those two and saying there is "no question" they would win the IL. That means there would have been clear separation from all others in the IL. Harvard was the clear favorite last year after Bruner and Mason were ruled out. All I did was say that I think there were 2 other teams that would have contended with Yale. I think that's a fairer statement. |

On Saturday night against a pretty good TCU team, top 35 team, Baylor hammered TCU by 26 points and have won 6 games in a row against very good competition --Bears are now ranked #25. Our boy Makai Mason scored 40 pints with 9 out of 12 3 pointers -- most in Big 12 this year. His scoring average is now up to 17 pts a game against very tough competition. It says a lot about a 6'1" guard who stepped up to a higher level of competition and is now leading a top 25 team that has overcome major season ending injuries. He was named Big 12 Player of the Week. His performance has given the IL considerable PR based on telecasts. |
