Tough loss today versus Vermont. We didn't get much in the way of calls from the refs. We also got very little from outside the starting line up. Our bench was outscored 7 to 28. C'est La vie. No mention of this in the Dartmouth game recap. With Ivy league play up next and the back to back nature of the weekend games, having depth and scoring from the bench will be a factor. Our starters will have their legs tested if our bench can't chip in. Knight is a stud but even his double doubles wont be enough if our starters cant put a game away early. Let's go Big Green Beat Harvard!!!

Vermont was just better than we were. While I don't think we played badly, we didn't play great either. THe final score was deceptively a little higher than it was for most of the game. But in any event, I came away with the same lesson as I have from several other games--we aren't quite good enough to be a legit Ivy threat this year. And is there a reason why McLaughlin favors that light green tie on game days? He's worn it several times now. If you're going to wear a green tie, why not utilize Dartmouth green? |

Hadn't heard that Vermont is building a new arena. Looks nice! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=goMhxQ4KBjo&a mp;fe... When it gets completed, an already-strong program is going to get stronger... |

Here's the bench utilization percentage & ranking currently on Kenpom.com: Harvard: 39.9% 23rd Columbia: 37.5% 41st Yale: 36.8% 49th Princeton: 32.8% 125th Brown: 32.1% 142nd Cornell: 32.0% 150th Penn: 26.6% 277th Dartmouth: 26.1% 294th D1 Average: 31.0% The other stat that I highlighted before the season was KenPom's 2-Foul Participation: We were pretty low last year (17.8% 176) and have actually dropped further as we head into league. Dartmouth now is at 1.0% or 347th out of 353. If you foul twice you have only a 1% chance of staying on the floor. The D1 average is 21.8%. I'm not suggesting that this is a bad metric, it works for #11 Tennessee, the difference is they also have a top 50 rated defense and a top 10 rated offense per Kenpom. Unfortunately we're not at that level in both those categories.
