Yale cannot handle the Tigers' physicality and athleticism. Copeland had a nice cut to the hoop but the size of the interior defenders thwarted what would have been an easy basket in Ivy play.

This might be the softest Yale team of Jones’s entire tenure. It’s on a scale, but they just aren’t as physical as in the past.

They are getting intimidated down low on both ends. LSU is also too quick for Yale.

What a crushing open court turnover by Phills, trying to do too much with a chance to cut the lead to 10.

Instead it’s an and-1 chance at the other end.

Bruner misses the and-on. Yale on 10-2 run to only be down 10.

They have missed their last 11 threes, Oni with 3 pts (1-10 overall) and Atkinson picked up 3rd foul.

Oni drives lane with huge slam to make it 68-62 with 1:25 to go.

Oni now with 5 points (1-6 from 2, 1-8 from 3). Team is 4-28 (14%) from 3.

Yale had the majority of the good looks at the basket in this game--anything near their usual three-point shooting and they would have won comfortably. The initial problems adjusting to LSU's athletic ability also cost them.

I have to agree that the old Sears/Sherrod/Downey types would have done a better job of standing up to LSU physically.
