Haven't been paying attention, any reason he didn't play v. Bama? |

He has been sidelined by a particularly bad case of knee tendinitis. According to Donohue, he didn't make the Alabama trip because he hasn't been able to practice for the past week. |

I'm afraid we'll never see the Wang we glimpsed at the beginning of last season (and have dreamed about since) ever again. My hopes were raised at the scrimmage, but this has the feel of a chronic condition that will tease and torment us for the next three years. Anyone remember Frankie Brown? |

I remember Frankie Brown. I haven't given up on Mike but have tempered my expectations. |

Quite honestly, I think we should put Wang on a load management program similar to Kawhi Leonard. Team training tends to be monolithic. This help certain players, but each person has different physical areas of development and areas of injury risk. I believe physical training should be individually customized to the needs and capacity of the individual. I believe this is why Leonard was upset with the Spurs. They weren't listening to what his body needed and he didn't want to put his career at risk to suit their timelines. Save Wang! |

Anyone remember Frankie Brown? You have quite a memory. I am reminded that he had a chronic health issue. Was it similar to this? |

Oh, yeah. Frankie was highly touted (along with Jed Ryan and Paul Romanczuk) to help restock our roster after the graduation of the Allen-Maloney class. Oh, and there was also the infamous Indiana transfer Rob Hodgson who spent one night in the Quad and then moved on to Rutgers. Frankie had chronic sore knees and was basically a 10 minutes every once in a while player. Big disappointment considering the expectations. |

Sadly, I think Lyle is probably going to prove right. I gather one of his problems is chronic inflammation. I've read that athletes have been recently using diet to address this issue. I wonder if they're considering this with Wang? |

I wonder how effective this can be. I've managed chronic tendinitis in both knees since before I turned 30 (I'm 59 now), and played in rec leagues until I was in my early 40s. For the most part I was successful through consistent strength training focused on quadriceps and hamstrings, always being careful to warm up and stretch properly, and ice after playing. At this point I don't play more than once a week, but I can still play. |

I still could get up and down the basketball court until around 50 before the first of 2 hip replacements. Sadly, my time on the court is only for coaching now. |

Yes, he had some excellent moments in his 9th year of eligibility.

If it's caused, at least in part, by chronic hyperinsulinemia, then reducing dietary carbohydrates might be beneficial. This is only anecdotal, but this approach seems to have helped me somewhat, and I have friends who swear that it had a major effect on them. |

Frankie put together a very nice final season. I think his finest moment was in the season opener his junior year (probably 8th year of eligibility) when Roy Williams brought Kansas into the Palestra as a favor to their longtime announcer who was about to retire. Frankie shot the lights out en route to a close loss. I have a bunch of courtside photos from that game somewhere. Dunphy managed to nurse him through his career, but he never came anywhere near what was expected of him. The weird thing was that I don't remember him ever getting injured. He was just always in pain. |

We lost by 6 points I believe and Jeff Boschee played a great game against us. Luckily we got the win vs another top 10 squad in Temple a few days later. I can't believe that was only his junior year. I thought he graduated that year. Wow. |

You threw me for a second, so I looked it up. The Kansas game was his senior season technically, but he came back for a 5th year. At that point he was a bit player since Jordan and Langel were seniors and Ugonna and Koko were impact freshmen. Frankie never emerged as more than a complementary player. |

Well, medicine is better now. So before all of you put Michael in the crypt, I am wishing him well. Perhaps they are holding him out to not overwork. His career as a basketball player has few more years at Penn. |

Agreed, we all presumably wish Wang well, but he did not practice during the week before the season opener. That doesn't sound like "holding him out to not overwork." It sounds like he's unable to play. |

I guess I would rather have him ready for IVY play/BIG FIVE play and healthy. I would be less worried about being hurt now than in January. Beating Alabama is fun, but it will not get you in the tournament. Beat Rice |

.... Beating Alabama is fun, but it will not get you in the tournament. True, but it could help your seeding if you get in.
