After playing some hard nosed basketball to finish the first half, this team looks like it has no pulse so far in the second. |

Cut the lead down to single digits, but couldn’t make that final push. Anderson and Hunsaker never really got going. Jordan Bruner provides a little bulletin board material in the post game interview, saying that in the second half Yale knew Brown “couldn’t play with us, so it was over with.†|

Yale’s defense was outstanding. They shut down the dribble handoff curl and had Brown uncomfortable all night. Very few clean offensive plays from Brown in what I thought was their worst offensive performance of the season. Had no urgency down the stretch either - down 9, just dribbling slowly up the floor, and then taking contested fallaway jump shots with 5 left on the shot clock. Brown’s D had some very effective stretches tonight. That run in the first half was some of the best of the season.

Yale is the superior team. But I expect the Bears to shoot better at the Pitz, and Martin to make adjustments to create better opportunities. Yale may still prevail. But Brown showed enough Friday night to warrant optimism for another competitive contest against arguably the league’s best team, and a possible victory. Freshmen Friday and Cowan continue to improve, adding size and depth to the lineup. |
