https://yaledailynews.com/blog/2020/01/28/mens- bas... While it wouldn't shock me if this were largely due to scheduling quirks (two D-III games, a game over Thanksgiving Break, and a Wednesday-nighter against Siena make up Yale's entire home non-con schedule), one does have to wonder what exactly Yale would have to do to get people to come to JLA for games. Perhaps they could hold a McKinsey cattle-call at halftime? |

its been an unfortunate trend over the long term even as team has improved. new haven, for all its aesthetic improvements, doesnt care which is sad. student body is indifferent. and the athletic set which has always supported the team is fractured by the hockey schedule which overlaps. culturally hockey is more popular. and lets be honest, lots of tools there.last time i went to a game i passed 100 kids going into the library on fri night in early Feb. midterms? doubt it. i say all this as a grad. |

Same here at Penn, where we used to wait on line for season tickets. My daughter went to Penn (Class of '15) and the difference between classes of the 70s, 80s and 90s and today is enormous. Thank the Common App and US News for making the Ivies pretty much an exclusionary club of those who spent their high school years only studying (except for athletes). |

The hockey thing especially rankles me because Yale's hockey team has been varying amounts of mediocre since the national championship year in 2013, which coincides nicely with the basketball team's ascent. Why someone would rather go watch the hockey team lose 4-1 to Quinnipiac or St Lawrence or Clarkson or whomever rather than watch their actually good basketball team is frankly beyond me, but then again I suppose I may not exactly be in line with the median Yale student. |

Since basketball fandom is full of nerds and geeks, I don’t think that the increased academic elitism, per se, of the student bodies have much to do with these trends. Other factors in admissions may have larger effects. |

The most frustrating part of it all is the best yale crowds are often on the road—places like Atlanta (amazing crowd for ga tech 2 yrs ago, even Kennesaw st) San Francisco Dallas (SMU)and of course providence or Jacksonville (ncaas) where the crowds were impressive. So alums seems to care. But new haven and the student body don’t really. Great point on hockey! Frustrating |

FWIW, there are next to no Yale fans on this board, either. |
