It was nice to finally blow out a team that we should. Now we'll see if we can make it two in a row. Kenpom has us as 15 point favorites again, and the good news is that our starters were able to rest last night while Mike Smith for Columbia went 40 minutes. Still can't shake the feeling that we'll once again play to the level of our competition, though.

Would be great to see another complete 40 minute game.

Mike Smith getting way too many easy buckets, and we're settling for way too many threes. Columbia's doubling Lewis before we can even pass it to him inside; maybe time to look for Kirkwood in the post too (to keep the drumbeat going).

Terrible half. We took 19 threes. We need to get the ball to the hoop. They can't stop Lewis inside. Kirkwood needs to make a point of driving more too — he was only 1 of 6 on threes in the first half. It'd be nice to make someone other than Smith beat us, too.

Doing a slightly better job getting inside to start the second half, but still taking too many threes. We can't buy an outside shot, but can get it to the bucket almost at will ... if we just would.

We're back to jacking threes. I'd tell them to only shoot from the paint for the next three minutes.

If it's a Harvard-Columbia game, it has to go to overtime. Apparently these are still the rules.

An embarrassing win. A whole heck of a lot better than an embarrassing loss, but still, back to playing to the level of our competition. We just couldn’t make any threes and yet kept taking them. A lot of them were open, but it would have been nice to see us attack the rim more. Noah in particular settled for a TON of threes off the dribble.

As expected (see my posts), Engles has Lewis doubled and generally packed the lane, challenging Harvard to outgun Mike Smith with 3’s. We took the bait, and missed 35 of them.

Escape and advance

Very Harvard game all the way around.

Struggled with Columbia. Shot an insane number of threes despite not making many. Played three separate “closing five minute” stretches and controlled two of them but let them both slip, needing a fortunate play by Bassey to keep things alive in one of them. Then played from behind in the third, hit a bunch of big shots and iced the game with free throws.

Was predictable they’d struggle at least once this weekend. They’d have lost to 90% of the country with the stats they threw up there last night. They didn’t. A win is a win.

So maybe this was a good weekend to be skiing without internet access?

On the plus side, it was a chance to tell my 9 year old about trying to track scores in the "olden days" as we refreshed our 3G phone connection continuously in the OTs.
