Bison just extended an offer to Jared Billups, a 6-5 junior wing from Baltimore - McDonogh HS, which is the alma mater of Al Leslie and Bruce Moore, among others. Billups has offers thus far from Loyola, Mt. St. Mary's, Bryant, and UMass-Lowell. Two other Class of 2021 offers already reported: - Gabe Dorsey 6-5 wing from the Hill School. Has offers from Penn State and Georgetown, among others. - Denham Wojcik 6-1 PG from Indiana. Has offers from Harvard, So. IL, Loyola (IL), Brown, and Army. - - - - - One other note. Billups is one of 75 offers already given out for this class by Jared Grasso at Bryant. Their offers for the Class of 2020 exceeded 150, naybe 200!

A ton of new offers today. Here are three, with more to follow: 1. Philip Byriel, a 6-10 220 lb PF/C of the Perkiomen School. He has an offer from Boston U already. 2. Noah McDavid, a 6-5 SG/SF, from Dallas TX. This is his first offer. 3. Tay Mosher, a 6-8 SF/PF from north of Dallas. Has offers from Northern Colorado, UT-Arlington, Oral Roberts, and UMKC.

More new offers from today: 4. Kurtis Henderson, 5-10 PG from Boston. Also has an offer from Hartford. 5. Angelo Brizzi, a 6-3 PG from VA. Offers from St. Joes, GWU, W&M, ODU, La Salle, Drexel, Lehigh, Loyola, Yale, Dartmouth, Navy, Pepperdine, Fairfield, Furman, Dartmouth, UNCW. 6. Lamaj Lewis, a 6-6 SF from a suburb of Los Angeles. Offers from Loyola Marymount and San Diego. - - - - - I think the recruiting priorities are: 1. A quick PG who can shoot and play defense. 2. A forward in the 6-6 range who can play SF and PF. 3. A center, or PF who can also handle backup center minutes. Presumably there will be three available scholarships with the loss of Sotos, Newman, and Meeks. (Spear has already been replaced by transfer Miles Latimer.) Would be nice to see one certain player transfer out and free up another scholarship.

3. Tay Mosher, a 6-8 SF/PF from north of Dallas. Has offers from Northern Colorado, UT-Arlington, Oral Roberts, and UMKC. Just realized that Mosher is from the same HS as Spear. I find it hard to believe that anybody who knows Spear would come to Bucknell. I can't imagine that Spear has a lot to say about the staff that is positive. (This is just a guess based on him transferring out.)

Two new offers: 1. Kacper Klaczek, a 6-8 forward from Long Island Lutheran. He is a native of Poland. Has offers from Washington State, Bradley, and Santa Clara. 2. Brandon Lieb, a 7-0 225 lb center from Deerfield IL. He has offers from Boston U, Western Illinois, IUPUI, and Southern Illinois-Evansville. He was a senior this year but has reclassified and will attend a prep school this year, very likely in New England. Lieb's brother is Jack Lieb, who was on the Lehigh roster for four years but never played due to several serious injuries. Jack prepped at Brewster Academy in New Hampshire.

Another 2021 offer: Ileri Ayo-Faleye, a 6-7 SF who was a senior at Cedar Crest HS, east of Harrisburg, this year. He just committed to a post-grad year at Putnam Science Academy in rural CT. Only had D2 offers until April - then picked up ones from Air Force and St. Francis just prior to his prep school decision, followed by offers from Towson and St. Peter's after.

I believe Molloy committed to Yale. Yes he did. On April 17th, ten days after the Bucknell offer. With offers from BC, PSU, Harvard, Yale, W&M, Colgate, UMass, Fairfield, Brown, Dartmouth, Columbia, and maybe others, it was not likely he was going to end up in Lewisburg. That is true of some of the others on the list as well.

You should be even more depressed now. Monday was the first day that coaches were allowed to contact 2022 prospects and also the first day they could extend offers - through their coaches only -to 2023 prospects. Bryan'ts coach, Jared Grasso, extended 136 offers in one day! "Monday was a busy day for college basketball coaches across America, but it’s possible no one was as active in terms of extending scholarship offers as Bryant’s Jared Grasso. The third-year Bryant coach extended 136 scholarship offers to players in the Classes of 2022 and ’23. At midnight on June 15, college coaches were first permitted to contact players in the Class of 2022 directly, while they could offer players in the Class of 2023 through their coaches." https://www.zagsblog.com/2020/06/16/why-bryant -coa...

Bryan'ts coach, Jared Grasso, extended 136 offers in one day! For comparison, Bucknell reportedly contacted five 2022 players in the first 36 hours. Not surprisingly, no offers. Of course there may be more contacts that weren't reported by the player, his club, his coaches, or local writers. There were published reports of Holy Cross contacting more than 30 in the same time period but only a few offers.

Offer to Ian Motta, a 6-6 SF from Allen TX, north of Dallas. He was born in Puerto Rico but brought up in Texas. Has offers from Rice, Air Force, Navy, UNCW, Iona, and Central Arkansas. The interesting offer is from Iona (Pitino). Normally one would expect that Pitino would have a very short stay at Iona before moving up - but he claims to have a massive buyout in his contract that no one but an NBA team could pay. But of course Pitino is an unethical liar, so his claim should be taken with a grain of salt. Anyway if Motta has any interest in academics - and Allen HS is viewed as a good academic school - then Iona should be off the table, since it is poor academically.

So Bascoe, Edmonds and Motta. Where exactly does that put us for 2021? Unless there is a mystery player transferring out, that is it. Two players graduate (Meeks and Newman) and only one of the two transfers was replaced (Latimer transferring in). What puzzles me a bit is that there seemingly was a significant need for a big. When these recruits arrive, the only two centers on the roster apparently will be Screen and Timmerman - and Timmerman has done nothing to suggest he is a D1 player. So either the staff is gambling Timmerman will make major strides in his conditioning - or someone else is transferring out - or bringing in two small guards and no bigs may be a mistake. Time will tell. Current roster for 2021-22: PG: X. Rice (6-3), J. Bascoe (5-11) CG/SG: D. Turner (6-1.5), E. Edmonds (6-2), M. Latimer (6-3) Wing: Funk (6-5), Ellis (6-5), J. Adoh (6-3) SF: I. Motta (6-6) PF: M. Rhodes (6-8), van der Heijden (6-8) C: Screen (6-11), Timmerman (6-9) Also there are rumors about Sechan coming back in 2021-22 for a 5th season since he sat out this year. And if the entire season gets canceled, things may radically change.

Offer to Canadian senior Brock Newton, a 6-7 SF. Newton, who graduates in about a month, had no offers until now. The Bison have two open spots, thanks to the transfers. The options are: 1. Find a rare gem in a senior who has not yet signed/received an offer. 2. Compete for a transfer who can contribute immediately. 3. Hold onto the scholarships and use them next year. My strong preference would be #2.

To no one's surprise, Newton quickly figured out that when you have only one offer late in your senior year - and it is from a very good academic school - that you should take it. And he did accept, only hours after receiving the offer. This is the second year in a row that the Bison have replaced an outgoing transfer, very late in the game, with a HS senior who has virtually no offers late in his final year. (Josh Adoh last year.) Hope this one works out - but I sure would have preferred a transfer. https://twitter.com/VerbalCommits/status/ 138753017...

What are Brock’s stats? Strengths of his game? His HS team apparently went down to Florida for a few months this winter to avoid the Canadian lockdown. They played a lot of games, but I can't find any stats. There are stats for his junior year: 19.5 ppg 6.5 rpg 2.9 apg 3 pt pct: .294 (25-85) 2 pt pct: .502 (107-213) FT pct: .477 (42-88) Hard to judge the competition level. These shooting pcts are obviously poor, so we have to hope he has improved significantly over the past 14 months. Here is a video of his senior year highlights, games which were presumably played in Florida or nearby. As in all highlight videos, he hits every shot. Looks like quickness may be an issue.

His numbers IMO reflect those of a walk on player. Sad how the bison have fallen. Will be interesting to see what attendance is like next season. I am hearing more and more from locals that are not renewing. |

I am hearing more and more from locals that are not renewing. Remember that those are numbers from 14+ months ago. It is possible he has improved a lot, although I have very little faith in the coaching staff to make that evaluation. It doesn't surprise me if season ticket holders are thinking about bailing. ND and staff seem to treat them mostly with contempt. John Griffin was the only one who cared.

Bucknell just issued the official press release on Newton's signing. There is one new negative, i.e. that he is actually a post-grad player. It was hard finding info on him on the internet due to his having played only in Canada. But it turns out he did four years of HS ball plus a fifth year with Toronto Basketball Academy, who played a full slate of games this year in Florida. Hope the Bison staff did a better evaluation job than all of the other D1 coaching staffs. https://bucknellbison.com/news/2021/5/10/mens-b ask...

So do we still have 1 open scholarship for a player to come in this year? Would like a transfer! I count 4 recruits so far but we’ve had a couple of exits with Turner and Ellis. What’s the latest scorecard?? And have Turner and Ellis signed elsewhere yet? (Not thinking either is coming back, just curious.) |

Ellis signed with Grand Canyon a while ago. (Also Meeks and Sechan to College of Charleston.) No reported landing spot for Turner as of now.

Thanks for updates. Do we still have an open slot for next year? If so what or whom are we working on? |

Thanks for updates. Do we still have an open slot for next year? If so what or whom are we working on? There is still an open slot. I somewhat doubt it will be filled this year. There are very few, if any, decent graduating HS players left - especially ones with good academics. Players who have gone four or five years of HS ball and not landed any scholarship offers aren't likely to help the team. And if they were going to be successful in landing a transfer, I think it probably would have happened already.

DP is rumored to be heading back to D3. I wish him nothing but the best moving forward. I am sure there are more than a few on this board that wish he would have stayed at Bucknell. |

If DP brought Dane Fischer and Aaron Kelly with him, then I'd be all for it.

Do you have a sense of how much of the portal inventory has resettled at new schools? The VC database shows 1580 players in the transfer portal. Of those, 828 are listed as having new homes. The number of transfers this year is up dramatically for several reasons: (a) NCAA eliminated the sit-out year for most transfers; (b) every player was given an extra year of eligibility; (c) a lot more graduate transfers; (d) less loyalty to a given program; (e) etc. The 828 who show up with a new school probably sounds low, i.e. 52.4% of players in the portal. However there are some factors to consider, such as these: 1. A number of players end up going D2 or D3 and don't get entered into the VC database due to lack of publicity. 2. Many seniors put their names into the portal this year, hoping to get some free grad school that they hadn't been expecting before the NCAA ruling. A lot of those guys aren't strong players and aren't in big demand. 3. Some players have academic issues and won't get firm offers until their second semester grades are available. 4. With so many transfers and so much roster disruption, things might be a bit slow this year as schools/coaches try to figure out who is returning and what their needs are.
