Cornell adds one more recruit. Evan Williams is 6-7 forward from Plano East HS with a handful of low mid-major D1 offers. The list isn't great, mainly Southland schools, but it's probably the best of any of this year's recruits. He was first-team all-district and led his team in scoring (10.3 points per game), rebounds (6.9) and blocked shots (1.2). The local papers say he battled mono early in the season, so that could have impacted his stats. He at least has potential. I apparently missed the commitment of another young man from Plano, Keller Boothby, who spent a post-grad year at Wilbraham and Monson Academy. A short, sort of, scouting report is here , but his only other offer, according to Verbal Commits, was D2 UT Tyler. If true, that doesn't bode terribly well, but here's to hoping for the best. That gives Cornell a new class of 5: PG Isaiah Gray, SG Chris Manon, Post Sean Hansen, Williams and Boothby. Two of the guys have no D1 offers, at least as far as I can tell, and the best schools offering any of the other three are BU and Nicholls St. Said another way, something really unexpected is going to have to happen for this class to change the current trajectory of the program. |

As I've stated before, at every level of college basketball personnel-wise to be good you need : 1) A couple of players who coming out you should not have gotten, players who were offered by more successful programs in better conferences and / or 2) One or two guys that develop into players who would by the time they are Juniors, could play at a higher level school. Right now the only player on the roster that seems to fall into either description is Boeheim, who has grown a couple inches and gotten a lot stronger since entering the program. Maybe McBride if he plays the way he did over the last month of the season. |

While I think McBride counts, it may be meaningful that his emergence coincided with Boeheim getting hurt. |

Isaiah Gray is the best of the Cornell recruits. Chris Manon winning 2nd Team NEPSAC honors at the highest level was super impressive. This is a sneaky okay class, folks. |

And today Cornell got a commitment from another NEPSAC AA 2nd team selection, Darius Ervin a 5’8†PG from Northfield Mount Hermon. Ervin shot an insane 51% from the 3 point line, and 90% from the FT line. His height surely hurt his recruiting stock, but watching his tape against good competition I see a kid who can really play. |

I like him. Small but already "college-strong". This could be one of those players that by his Junior year it is obvious that he could have played at a higher level. |

Yeah, I think he's got a high ceiling and will be a key cog during his career. We've now got a lot of good pieces in the backcourt. |

Cornell adds a guard: Adam Hinton committed yesterday. Hinton is listed as a 6-5 guard who played at Harvard Westlake and is taking a PG year at Phillips Exeter. |

6’6” small forward DJ Nix from Concord, NC has committed to the Big Red. He’s a 3 star on Rivals and 247 Sports, and the 247 composite has him rated the 58th small forward nationally. He had offers from BC, Washington State, Wichita State, Charleston, Appalachian State, and according to one article, from Auburn. He seems to be an excellent outside shooter and has a strong all-around game that should fit in well with Earl’s high-tempo style. |

It's just one data point, but the tempo Earl is using this year may be helping with recruits. |

I saw the same article and had similar thoughts that the team's current style of play will be appealing to a lot of recruits. It was interesting to see Nix's comments along those lines. A year ago there was, understandably, a lot of pessimism among Cornell fans about the direction of the program. The future (and present) seems far sunnier than I could've predicted. |

Agreed Scoop. Cornell's wins are more quantity than quality so far. Even the Colgate win has tarnished a bit with their 1-7 slide since upsetting SU. But they are wins. I never doubted, too much, Earl's "X and O" ability, but did wonder about his ability to recruit. The underclassmen contributions of Boothby, Williams, and Manon are encouraging, and if Grey's offensive game catches up to his D, he'll be outstanding (but what guard shoots 5-14 from the line?). |
