Learn something new every day. I'm showing my kids "Gilligan's Island" during our lockdown. They love it (as did I when I was their age). But I did not know that Rudy LaRusso was on one of the episodes. https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1813057/mediav iewer/rm... (It's the one where the castaways find a box of plastic that is explosive and the monkey goes to town with it). |

Interesting. Any other Ivy basketball cameos on sitcoms? |

No Ivy athletes are coming to mind as making cameos on shows. But Gilligan's Island had quite a few Los Angeles-based athletes making appearances. Some I knew, some I caught recently with my kids. In addition to LaRusso (Lakers), there was Roman Gabriel (Rams), Walt Hazzard (Lakers/UCLA), Jim Lefebvre, and Al Ferrara (both Dodgers). And I tell you- the episodes still hold up well!! Highly recommended! All that said, there are several Ivy athletes who had successful acting careers. Among others, the late Brian Dennehy, Tommy Lee Jones, Andrew Shue and I'm sure others that I'm not recalling... |

No discussion of Gilligan's Island could be complete without the perennial question: Ginger or Mary Anne? |

No discussion of Gilligan's Island could be complete without the perennial question: Ginger or Mary Anne? Having re-watched a lot of episodes recently, I'd go with Ginger. Can probably add Lou Gehrig as an Ivy athlete that did some acting as well. |

From my era, Rob Ryder. Good baller, but dropped out of Princeton to "make pots". Ended up in Hollywood. Has three on-screen credits (IMDB), and was basketball consultant to several movies including "White Men Can't Jump" and (oddly) "Father of the Bride" I and II. |

Was gunned down in one of the most graphic death scenes ever up to that point on TV in "Hill Street Blues"----very much like what he did to Penn when he ran for over 200 yards against Penn at Franklin Field in a game I saw while visiting my brother who preceded me at Penn in 1971. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQckYP2yet0 https://timesmachine.nytimes.com/timesmachine/1971... |

My brother went to high school in NJ with Marinaro. He ran for a million yards in high school. But what I really enjoyed watching as a young kid - they had a handoff on punt returns where Marinaro would catch the punt then hand off to the other returner. The other teams were so focused on Big Ed that his partner ran in a number of returns for TD's. |

Dean Cain. Again, inexcusable oversight on my part. |

John Krazinski's brother Paul played at Brown. I think John tried out. |

All oversights are excusable. I carry a drivers license so that I know who I am if pressured to respond immediately. |

My mother in law dated Rudy when she was at Smith. Said he was a very nice guy, but awfully tall. They guy she married was 13 inches shorter. |

Tragically, Fawn met her demise in a kiln explosion while making a pot. Also, the D basement smelled like skunky old beer. |
