One of the recruiting experts I follow posted that Pat Behan has been diagnosed with ALS. If someone posted this already, apologies for the duplication. Prayers to Pat and his family. |

I'm hoping that the original source has the story wrong, but I fear it is accurate. Prayers to Pat and his family.

Sadly, it's confirmed. Per a tweet from his sister, he was diagnosed three months ago. Here's a website Pat and family created to educate people on ALS and facilitate donations for his care: https://www.behanstrong.com/ |

WCAC Championship Game: “ St. John’s 65, Paul VI 63. An amazing basketball game between two skilled, tough teams. Daquan Davis made a driving layup with 3.8 seconds left. At the end, Pat Behan hugged assistant coach Patrick O’Connor and blinked away tears.” St. John’s is now 29-2 and was ranked 16th in the nation. The win tonight over 28-2 Paul VI -ranked 4th in the nation - avenged one of St. John’s two losses.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2023/02/27/s... Behan's St. John team beat Paul VI last night in the WCAC final 65-63. Some are calling it one of the best high school basketball games ever played in the DC Catholic League. |

On Sunday morning, ESPN SportsCenter will air a feature on Pat Behan, titled "Nothing Else Matters." It's supposed to run between 8 and 10am ET on ESPN. Here's the trailer: https://www.espn.com/video/clip?id=3592689 6 |

Twitter update on Pat's condition: As we highlighted yesterday, @synapticure offers Pat a great deal of help and guidance as he and his care team navigate through the daily challenges that ALS presents. But what does a day look like for Pat currently? Unfortunately Pat is no longer able to ingest food orally. A large portion of his diet has been 10 daily cartons of Kate Farms supplements, which he consumes through a feeding tube located in his abdomen. Along with the feeding tube he utilizes a cough assist machine, suction machine and a noninvasive BiPap to assist with his breathing a majority of the day. Fatigue is constant and even some of the simplest tasks requires assistance, as he has lost function in his arms and hands. Communicating has become increasingly difficult as Pat’s voice gets weaker; he often slurs his words. Each day, Pat generally has at least one appointment on his schedule (OT, PT, respiratory therapy, etc), and often multiple. He takes daily doses of medications such as Radicava, Relyvrio and Riluzole aimed at slowing the progression of his disease, as well as medications that aim to assist with his physical and mental health. All the while he has a professional caregiver with him, 24-7. We will continue to #PunchBack4Pat. https://twitter.com/BehanStrong/status/16 693235879... |
