Penn up 8-3 at first media TO. Dingle has a driving reverse layup and a floater from the elbow, Martz a reverse layup on a back cut feed from Spinoso, Slajchert a couple of FTs. A bit of worry on Dingle’s first hoop when he clearly came up lame and limping but doesn’t seem to have affected him in any extra way. Dingle also has his requisite first terrible turnover on a pass to the corner AFTER Slajchert had made a baseline cut. |

Quakers have scored on one possession since the timeout, turned it over on the other three, the latest a horrible misread by MLL on an attempted high-to-low post pass to Martz. |

Under 8:00 timeout, Quakers up 25-14 after Mosh feeds Dingle for an emphatic back cut dunk. Great help defense at the other end has helped create the margin, with Mosh coming with the double to get two weak side blocks on the low post. |

Quakers up 10 at the under 4:00 TO, Drexel will have the ball after a Slajchert turnover, the second consecutive possession with a Penn giveaway, sandwiched around a Williams jump hook after the lead had grown to its largest at 12. |

Was shaping up to be an awful end to the half with some poor shot selection and a turnover which allowed Drexel to hit a 3 to cut it to 7, but a Slajchert floater in the lane is followed by a steal by Smith, which they convert into a transition dunk by Monroe with 0.1 left to finish up 33-22. |

I think Penn has benefitted a lot so far from Drexel not really knowing yet who they can lean on besides Williams for offense. They’ve got got some returning upperclassmen like Coletrane Washington, Okros, and Oden, but they were all deeper rotation guys not starters. The rest of the faces are mostly new. Also interesting to build a double-digit lead going only 1-5 from 3. |

Agree. I think this is the right starting 5 for Penn. Mosh, if not tasked with too much responsibility, is a useful cog on the bench. He's effective when he plays within his capabilities. |

Great pass from Dingle and even better catch and finish for the layup by MLL in transition, two possessions after the big guy had a dunk after racing out on the bank. That’s now three he’s gotten because of his hustle down court. |

Is this more a case of Dingle getting his groove back? Or Drexel being a few notches down in quality? |

So I was able to tune back in with just enough time to see Mosh force dribbling it all the way down the court to force up a missed hook after they tightened the lead. Yeah, no. No Ed Holland III yet? Did I miss an injury? |

LOL since I was able to start watching again, lead fell from 15 to 5. I'll stop watching and get back to work, hopefully that allows a turnaround. But I would definitely like to hear what happened to Ed Holland. |

Penn up 52-44 at the under 8:00 TO after MLL & Turner pick up offsetting fouls mixing it up in the paint, Drexel has cut the lead thanks to some threes by House and by being much more agressive attacking off the dribble and hitting the offensive glass. |

Dingle forcing way too much. Two bad turnovers, an airball 3, and a poor decision fallaway miss have helped Drexel stay in contact after consecutive Slajchert 3s had pushed the lead to 11. 55-48 at the under 4:00. |

And a shot clock violation and a Williams hook and the lead is down to 2. Almost entirely a Dingle-generated rally for the Dragons. |

Now Slajchert with a dumb force after Dingle drew a non-shooting foul which reset the shot clock to 20. 60-55 still, 31 seconds left, Williams shooting FTs. Makes 1-2. Spinoso fouled on rebound. |

It's nice to get a win, but that isn't saying much. I'll reserve most all other comments until I can watch the game in full later tonight. But unless there is an injury I missed, I don't understand why Ed Holland III would get a total of 0 mins tonight after what he showed in the first 3 games. |

I listened to the radio broadcast on the Penn Athletics website. No mention of an injury in Holland's case. They did go into a discussion of the coaching staff's use of the out of conference games as sort of a rotation science project. Could be the most logical explanation. Or it could have been a matchup thing. |

Or it could have been a matchup thing. Right, Monroe barely played against Towson but got 34 minutes tonight and was a big contributor, particularly on the defensive glass. |

Just back from the DAC. Actually very comfortable--as long as you are on the sidecourt-all seatbacks. Tremendous video board--nice little arena that was not close to full. Oh, the game. Drexel is not very talented, but has a lot of athletes whose athleticism bothered us. Other than Mosh early, no one really could get a shot off other than Slajchert and Dingle. Both of them made some questionable decisions. Given our 15 point lead midway through the 2nd half, this should have been a laugher, but we went into one of our patented offensive slumbers and Drexel ran off 10 straight making this a nail biter. Never should have been. If we had any offensive flow and ran plays, we would have won this by 25. Oh well, I'll take the win, but we need to get a lot better. And I also want to know why Holland got no time at all. |

Yes, the defense was better tonight (though the matchup may have had a lot to do with that). More Smith and Monroe means better defense and rebounding. Maybe if we get behind we play Charles and Holland more in hopes of more offense. The other rotation thing that surprises me is how little Martz is playing. After the D3 scrimmage where he started at the 3 I thought we might see that “big” look some, but instead Martz is only playing the 4 and getting fewer minutes than Mosh at the position. Martz isn’t doing as much with his minutes, either. He isn’t rebounding the way that position normally does for us (though it could be that Smith and Monroe are essentially playing the role of the guy who cleans up the defensive rebounds while others box out). |

History may record that Penn won this game at the FT line. Never thought I would have occasion to say that. Probably not a sustainable approach. |
