The question of the day: will the women beat Yale by more than the men lose? |

Well, they have never been able to keep a lead before, but at halftime, amazingly, they lead Yale 34-20. |

But they kept it this time. 62-60. Amazing, especially since princeton women lose to Harvard, and the women are leading Yale. The perfect basketball afternoon. |

I am having pre-emptive nightmares about what Avery Brown might do in the league by the end of his career. Congrats fellas. |

I take back all my doubts about Engles. He coached a masterpiece of a game and managed crunch time well. A few mistakes at the end could have been fatal but Brown and Murphy hung tough. Brown is the best Columbia point guard in years and looks like a candidate for ROY if he keeps this up. And the rotations were excellent. One observation about Yale. They always had a go to guy in crunch time; I don’t know if they have one this year. |

Excellent observation— both Yale and Princeton lost crucial senior scorers and that could really hurt them in close games. the question for Yale is why was this a close game? |

My two cents on these questions: Matt Knowling is probably that guy, but sitting out for the better part of a month didn't help his performance today. Yale has played extremely poorly in first halves an awful lot this year, but nobody has put them down enough to make it stick until today. Credit to Columbia for hitting (extremely tough) shots down the stretch. |

I think Matt Knowling was rusty after not playing three games. He looked better in the second half, but had a number of good looks close to the rim that he left short. Free throw shooting was also uncharacteristically bad. That being said, I thought Columbia started the game with much better energy, especially on defense. It looked like Yale thought they could sleepwalk through this one. In the second half, they were the better team, but Columbia made the big shot at every time of asking. |

Great win. It looked like Yale was gonna recover just in time, but nope, Lions held on. Hopefully, our guys will get the memo - I suspect they were already looking ahead to Cornell. |

Murphy hadn’t played in a month and was still rusty, but nonetheless made a significant contribution at both ends of the court. He also looks stronger this year. |

I think that Brown outplayed the Yale PGs; he looked like the best player on the court on either team. |

A great day to be a Lion Basketball Fan! Huge victory over Yale in Men's Basketball and a blow out triumph over Yale in Women's Basketball. I can't wait for the Women's Basketball Games with Princeton and Harvard. Biggest basketball games on Morningside Heights since 1968!!!!!!! |

By far the most beneficial result of today's victory is that we will now, at least until Friday, be spared the usually brilliant critiques from our very own basketball savants. |
