Another mismatch, I’m afraid. Our shooting was terrible, especially the 3 ball, we gave Harvard 2 and 3 chances because we are a poor rebounding team, and we had no answer to Brooklyn native Ludlum (and why can’t we recruit local talent like that?).

What else can we say that hasn't been said already. Our men's basketball team is one of he lowest ranked basketball teams in the United States. It is coached by a person who is one of the worst basketball coaches in Columbia history. His record at Columbia is something like 45 wins and 100+ losses including just 18 or so Ivy League wins. He is an awful game coach and recruiter. The coach took over a winning program about seven years ago and turned into a loser almost immediately. We now appear to be on the path to still another horrible season which the coach will undoubtedly blame on the players. Then the cycle will be repeated. Common sense dictates a coaching change immediately and replacing the current head coach with an "interim head coach," from the current coaching staff to give that person an opportunity to make an impact on the team's performance in the final weeks of the season and also to demonstrate his overall capabilities for making the Columbia Men's Basketball Program successful. |

Brown beat Princeton today. Cornell beat Yale. Every team in the league with the possible exception of Dartmouth has a shot at the title except for us. I took heart at the Yale game and even praised Engles. It is now apparent that the Yale game was a fluke. Our shooting today was abominable—something like 4 for 20something from 3 point range. We missed makeable shots under the basket. We were manhandled in the rebounding department; some guys with starter minutes took the horse collar. But Pilling will not do anything during the season-it’s not in his DNA.

It comes down to you have to put the ball in the hole, as Rohan often said. Whatever plays the coaches plan, execution is what wins (loses).

May I suggest that you are taking somewhat out of context what the great Jack Rohan's said as he demanded excellence at all times from both the players AND the coaches. Jack considered himself to be both a coach and a teacher. He was very serious about making sure his teams were fully prepared for everything that was likely to happen on the floor. Years later, we all miss Jack. |

Except for Mike Smith, a Kyle Smith recruit, have we had a single all Ivy player in the last 7 years?

On the woman's side, Jaida Patrick, the Duke transfer, who has improved dramatically at Columbia, is a "local product," from West Haverstraw, New York. She is certainly an All-Ivy caliber player. Coach Griffith also has a standout incoming player in Riley Weiss |

Hard to win when your shooting % is 27% and your 3 pt % is 21%. I don’t think Murphy is ready to play yet. He clearly is not 100%, or even close. Of the first years Brown is good, so is Noland. Bedri may turn out to be OK; Thompson is not physically strong enough to play in the front court. As far as the second years, DLR has not made the big jump some have predicted for him. Copper and McLean are decent SGs, Stankard hasn’t shown much, and Tavroff is big and strong but not a finished product—misses too many bunnies and should be a dominant rebounder but isn’t.

Everyone agrees that the backcourt players are the strength of the Columbia Men's Basketball Team. All of the backcourt players are talented. The front court is another story with players who give it their all, but are struggling. |
