Quo vadis Mr. Piling. Quo vadis. Is there a single participant on this board who wishes Columbia basketball well still prepared to maintain that Engles deserves another year?

Full disclosure… I haven’t seen many of the men’s games this season, but I think it was palestra38 who said it best… now would be a terrible time to fire Engles. Columbia has one of the youngest teams in the nation and frankly, I thought they looked very competitive in a couple games that I watched recently, including the first half vs Yale this evening.

The future looks much more promising than it did during Mike Smith’s final season before heading to Michigan. And I don’t recall a group of first year players who looked this good. Lo and Nweke caught my eye as freshman, but as a group, can you name one who has looked better?

If anyone expected a bunch of freshmen and sophs to do much better than 3-11, maybe expectations were too high.

With experience under their belt, and some good first year players coming in next year, we should expect some improvement and by 24/25, Engles should have them competing for a spot in Ivy Madness.

There is never a good time to fire a coach. But after 7 years of futility does anybody honestly believe that Engles can make our program respectable?
