Matt Langel getting lots of mentions for the Penn State vacancy (Shrewsberry leaving for Notre Dame). He seemed like a great candidate for Temple, but CBS reporting "in a headscratching move, a source told CBS Sports that Colgate coach Matt Langel, who is a former Temple assistant and knows Philadelphia well, is not expected to be pursued for the job." Coaching Changes on Twitter says they hear the Temple AD removed Langel from consideration because "he's never coached a pro." That seems pretty dopey. CBS says American hiring decision expected this week. |

I was thinking Langel could be a possibility for Temple…maybe even Providence. Yeah the “never coached a pro” reasoning is strange especially considering Temple isn’t exactly known for filling up NBA rosters. |

Well, I guess that's his aspiration, but seems like an outstanding coach who recruits well will make that happen even if he hadn't previously done so at a mid-major program.

The Temple AD sounds like a lightweight - or worse. Langel is a much better coach than whoever he ends up hiring. Probably another Aaron McKie. Or maybe he can grab Ashley Howard. He coached lots of pros at Villanova before turning in a record of 26-50 at La Salle in A10 play.

Paulsen's replacement at George Mason took the job at Providence after being let go at Mason. Just to clarify, English was not let go by GMU. He was still their head coach until he left for Providence yesterday. GMU had a fairly good season this year.

Congrats to DP. I’m sure he will have some success at Holy Cross but not like at Bucknell (well I hope not, lol.) He seems like a good guy and he deserves to be a HC. This will make Bucknell-HC matchups much more fun. |

While convinced Paulsen will improve the HC basketball program, not sure this is the best move for either Dave or the College. Used to live nearby and went to a number of games each year. Older, limited facilities (both athletic and academic), poor student and local resident support, and a track record of being the place coaches go to die. Its no accident that HC's record the past 13 years is 163-262. As the 5th coach since Ralph Willard left, good luck to Dave. We can now continue the over/under regarding how many cups of water he drinks a game. |

Funny quip from Paulsen at his introductory press conference today. Speaking appreciatively of his wife, he said, "We are now in the market for our 15th house in 31 years. She hasn't hit the transfer portal yet." https://www.youtube.com/live/G9VCZfyuGCU?feat ure=s... |

After all the hype about Halcovage going to Bucknell, he’s been hired by Buffalo. |

American has hired Duane Simpkins, a DMV legend who starred at DeMatha and the University of Maryland. Spent the last 8 years on the George Mason staff, including 6 years under Dave Paulsen. Still hearing rumors DeChellis might retire at Navy, but for now an extremely busy PL coaching carousel has settled down. |

Still hearing rumors DeChellis might retire at Navy, but for now an extremely busy PL coaching carousel has settled down. If DeChellis intends to retire, he may be delaying it until it is too late to conduct a job search, hoping his Associate Head Coach Jon Perry would get the job. Perry has played and coached under DeChellis for 21 of the past 23 years. Emmett Davis, the former Colgate coach, has also been an Associate Head Coach there for years. But he is about 63 years old and would be unlikely to be the choice.

Wow! Amazing number of new coaches in Patriot League will make it difficult to find and hire the best assistant coaches. Any head coach hired late in the process will find an already difficult hiring process to be even more of a challenge. |

Fired Army coach Jimmy Allen reportedly will land as an assistant coach under his good friend Nathan Davis. Kind of wild to have two of last year's Patriot League coaches on the same staff. https://twitter.com/GoodmanHoops/status/1 651225680... |

Also some are saying Paulsen is hiring Bryson Johnson. It's one thing for Paulsen to coach there...makes me grimace to see former Bison stars on league rival benches! Of course, it's certainly a testament to our program. Interesting tale about Bryson via Bison137 posting at Crossports: "For those who are interested, there is a story behind Bryson getting the PhD from George Mason. He had spent a couple of years as a graduate assistant at GMU well getting his masters, and then took a job as an assistant coach at Brown. He intended to stay in that position, but Brown bungled and didn’t re-file the paperwork for him to stay in that position, being a Canadian citizen. They tried for months and hired an attorney, who specialized in that field, but still couldn’t resolve the issue. Thus Bryson could not continue as a coach, and returned to GMU as a graduate assistant while he pursued a PhD. After a year in that role, GMU had obtained the govt permission (green card?), and he became an assistant coach his final year there." |

For those who don’t know, Allen and Davis were assistant coaches together for 5+ years at Navy under Don Devoe prior to ND’s stint as an assistant for Flannery.

Of course, it's certainly a testament to our program. 1. Bryson is officially onboard at HC. Named an Associate Head Coach. Interesting that he is starting at that level while DP took over three years to promote Dane Fischer, who had about the same qualifications as Bryson does now, up to that title. At the very least, Dane being mostly responsible for landing Mike Muscala should’ve earned him a promotion by itself. Add in the other key recruits that he landed the first few years and a promotion should’ve been obvious. 2. At least two sources have reported that Bryson’s successor at Vermont will be his older brother Nathan. Nathan has worked a number of jobs in Canada for over a decade as a high school coach, college assistant coach at a couple of spots, and AAU coach. Also worked for a while in China.
