It starts with "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results" and ends with "I have complete faith in coach Donahue to build a winning culture at Penn." By the author's own logic, he is insane. |

Washington Post weighs in with an NIL article on Malik Mack. Strong case that he should just go to Georgetown if he wants academics and NIL money. I didn't really understand the concept of collectives until I read this article. After reading it, I honestly don't understand how the Ivies will survive at a D-I level.

Many here have said that at this level, it's all about winning. Well, winning won't happen in the future without alumni opening their checkbook. We will all need to stop whining and start giving. Who will step up and raise the Penn basketball NIL collective? |

If I were an Ivy president I'd do everything in my power to prevent alumni starting NIL collectives, up to and including jacking admissions standards WAY up. Collectives will cause the institutions lose too much control over their varsity programs, and that carries significant risk-- risks that really aren't worth taking for an Ivy as there's very little to be gained in return. Now, a president of a major conference university wouldn't care about this all that much, because those schools' varsity programs are already beyond their control, and they're also less concerned about the potential risks in light of the benefits. And that's the unavoidable calculus-- Penn doesn't have enough to gain as an institution to justify pursuing major sport success, particularly in light of some recent embarrassments, especially with MBB. As a fan I desperately wish this weren't the case, but if I were Penn's president I would reluctantly decide to stick with the status quo. Steve Donahue has run a clean program and hasn't embarrassed the university, and, regrettably, that has to be good enough for the time being. Maybe when his contract is up the university will reconsider. |

Will you open your checkbook? You would get a voice if you do. Earl, Henderson, and Martin, may be in the running for other coaching jobs. Donahue may move up the league tables.
A contract that we STILL have no information about. They have made it very clear how they feel about this program and I guess us fans have to now do the same. What a shame. |

The Penn lacrosse “collective” (we actually bought tickets) was discussing this today. The consensus was that most of the mid majors that can’t or won’t buy top talent will end up in a new NCAA division much like 1AA or FCS in football. More palatable than DIII. |

I don't know what you are disgusted by. That's the new world of athletics. The whole thing is disgusting. I know for a fact that Coach K is meeting with alumni and boosters about this stuff, even though he isn't even the Duke coach anymore. If you put in $10M, you don't get to run the program - but you better believe that you get to bend their ear. If you think it is disgusting, then join me in not taking this stuff too seriously. It's fine by me if we fire Donahue. It's fine by me if we don't. I'm fine with Donahue starting Holland, and I'm fine that Laz got more time (especially since he was statistically superior). At this point, I only care about the program representing us with great student athletes. |

I was a Penn fan even through the worst of teams. When I was an athlete, I played hoops a few times with some of the players. Penn wasn't very strong then. I was decent friends with an all-ivy player and also a benchwarmer who barely saw the court. They were both simply great guys. The benchwarmer worked his tail off in basketball and his schoolwork. He was a true student athlete. I'm still judgmental from my armchair, but I choose not to be a militant @sshole as an alumni with regards to people I don't even know, as long as the program seems to represent. On the other hand, a former player from the Miller years interviewed at my firm. He said it was dehumanizing playing with Miller. He was someone who had good playing time, so it wasn't a gripe about that. It isn't all about winning. It really isn't. The winning is nice and can be a great positive experience. If winning means so much to you, help the program by giving. That's the path in this new era. If your personal happiness depends so heavily on whether these young kids win or lose, then who is the weird one spewing crud? |

I never said a thing about your sexual preferences or anyone else's. You don't need to be defensive about your preferences as long as things you do are legal. Wait... what is it that you do that you are being so defensive about? Don't be Jessie Smollett on this board. Hate is a serious problem. You can completely be or identify however you like. Be comfortable with yourself. It's the amount that you feel a need to compensate with sociopathic behavior that is notable. You must deal with a lot of emptiness. Please seek professional help or talk to loved ones.
