After their disappointing showing against Princeton, on their home floor no less, I didn’t think they had a prayer. Maybe Griffith’s plea to “grow the game” (to select a mid-Major over a P5 school) played a factor with the committee.

The Lions are a 12-seed, and play Vanderbilt in Blacksburg, VA on Wednesday. The winner faces 5-seeded Baylor.

Pete, I agree with you. Megan Griffith is an inspirational person and coach. Congratulations to her and the Columbia Women's Basketball Team!!!!!!!

Megan did not just demand that the selection committee "grow the game." She specifically instructed the committee not to pass over her team in favor of some SEC team because "that conference isn't very good, you know, they just beat each other except for USC [South Carolina] and LSU."

So the selection committee heard what she had to say and gave Columbia a play-in game against the SEC's Vanderbilt.

Toothless, I think you mean "Vandy" not "Candy," but yes, Head Coach Shea Ralph may put some of Megan's quotes up on the bulletin board in the locker room. And after dissing all those crappy SEC teams, I wouldn't be bragging on my resume about losing to a couple of them, Florida (16-15) and Georgia (12-18), even if on a neutral floor. I hope the Lady Lions show up on Wednesday and "play Columbia basketball," but Megan may have unnecessarily put a little extra pressure on them playing Vanderbilt.

Win or lose Wednesday evening against Vanderbilt, Megan Griffith is without doubt the best salesperson in Ivy League Sports History having convinced the NCAA Selection Committee that the Ivy League Women were entitled to a double bid. What she accomplished was amazing and will benefit not just the Columbia Women's Basketball Team, but all of the other Ivy League Women's Basketball Teams, and presumably all of the Ivy League Men's Basketball Teams.

I did mean Vandy. That's why I do audio recordings for IvyHoopsOnline, not typewritten.
A couple of years ago someone posted a comment after the Tigers' great postseason that their efforts reflected well on the league. I said not really since Carla went 16-0 against the league by double digit margins. This year Columbia and Princeton both deserved bids partly because the league is getting better each year. I think the future us bright beyond this season.

Very happy that Committee woke up and selected the Lions. 12 can be a great seed for a quality team to get one or more wins.

Now, if the Committee would finally recognize that the men also are good enough for more than one bid.

I hope the explosive growth of, and interest in, the women's game will get us to the point when neutral sites can be used. Iowa won't be the only sold out arena but it is an obvious advantage to host. Carla agrees that it's all about the $$$. Such an arrangement would not be tolerated by the coaches of men's teams.
