i am going to sign off. i posted too much info anyway. and frankly no one cares or listens anyway. wolf will make more than my son who will make more than me next year. disruption. its a shame. and for reasons i cited and others genuinely dug into on financial aid. we arent doing anything. no momentum. could it change? of course. but i am not optimistic |

People will make their choices I suppose. Are these NIL contracts guaranteed against an ACL tear? I am also reminded of what a Brown alum (played 106 games, maxed 8.4 PPG as a junior) said at halftime of the Princeton game as to what he was up to - finishing his fifteenth year at Goldman. |

yep. of course. see that pearl interview from last week. he had a show cause and discussed it. here are the limitations for yale for thise interested and then i will be quiet for a long while bc its depressing anywat in no order 1. bball kids of recent vintage who are high major dont really use the degree to a maximum. so why not maximize bball outcomes and how do you stop that. its cultural and its financial 2. fin aid tax issues are a barrier to a collective moving the needle. we are talking abt big money for wolfs (and maybe etc unfortunately) 3. small sample of $ alums just dont believe in it and think its a recurring issue and just expensive our bball community of givers isnt that expansive so weight falls on fewer who are not confident in outcomes for yale and the ivy league and while dismayed arent going to be proactive as an aside as i have written on various team board the sec football nil (which set the standard)--- has massive numbers of small donors and businesses hard to compete with that given above and as noted by others in various ways and part and parcel to above ---need scholarships anyway |

not all are the same but theoretically. some are pushing back bc they dont get whats promised. but UT AU UGA FSU battles end. very credible and tight feedback loops mean the imposters get found out fast. they are annual deals like a scholarship |

The Dusty May experience. His FAU teams played really hard and together. I wasn’t always impressed by their judgment under stress, but Wolf will be a much better passer than any big the Owls had. |

Wolf to Michigan is official. In other news the trend is accelerating league wide including at Princeton. But mostly crickets on my prophecies last fall. Was speaking to a friend on fsu's staff. They have 2 players now. FedEx giving 25mm to nil at Memphis for multiple sports but mostly bball and football. If I didn't have 2 sons playing d1 next few yrs I wld quit being a fan. But i have no choice |

for Yale's sake I hope the roster is stable as of now for next year. If so they will be good in this league. But you can't compete nationally with all the ivy disadvs unless you are older than the comp. That game is over. I hope aletan blows up next year. But if so he likely leaves etc etc |

While the league loses a bunch of good players to the portal, more are staying than leaving. So hopefully Aletan would stick around, like Poulakidas and Mbeng, etc. But it is definitely scary. |

It is alarming when the likes of FSU, with big-time sports ambitions, have to go prowling the portal to build their entire roster. The part I can’t figure out is how the numbers add up across D1 P6. If they are all raiding the mid-majors and low majors, what happens to all the guys who leave before graduating? Are they moving back to mids? |

Ivy players aren't transferring to FSU. |

They may be bringing in fewer freshmen. So the D1 P6 builds their rosters through transfers, and more of the incoming freshmen go to mids. No idea if that is empirically true, but it would explain who’s the numbers add up. |

I cld write a book on fsu. To see extent understanding their plight was the catalyst to understanding the whole mosaic reshaping college sports. Context- I grew up in Tally, my dad played football there and was a lifetime golden chief and through the execution of his will we are involved in the battles end, a top 5 NIL org which funds the football program. I do know two Dartmouth and one Harvard kid who have grad transferred to fsu for football in last 3 yrs. They recruited 3 yale kids who opted for south Carolina and Tenn instead. On samson- |

I am hopeful you are correct. He only went to Yale to honor his late father who as a Nigerian immigrant became a compu sci prof at a small Texas school. Samson blew up late as a recruit-everyone who saw him the summer bf his senior year wanted him-texas Baylor tcu houston etc. But he went to yale bc he was sold on the education and his father's wishes. His primary recruiter is now at BU. I think he will blow up and wld be a Fool not to consider the money. The thing in Yale's favor- his late father's vision and he is an old school 5 not a wolf type in an era where schools can buy a 24 yr old to do what he does well. But I think he will be better than wolf on multiple fronts. He is the biggest most athletic kid at the 5 that Yale has had since Chris dudley |

I find it hard to believe that players aren’t being contacted by other schools (or boosters) before entering the portal. Would we call this “recruiting?” I also wonder about the conversations players have with their existing coaches. Did the 4 Princeton players who jumped meet with Mitch beforehand to ask him where they stood with him next year? Puts a different spin on Mitch’s comment after the season ending loss that he’d be talking with the players about goals for next year. By the way, Duke has now lost 7 players to the portal. https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/ne ws/... |

its as dirty as you can imagine. there are no rules! we all know how dirty the recruiting game was when there are rules. as for football vs basketball... the case study that foreshadowed portal chaos started in football. this is where the revenue is primarily where the collectives were birthed first and obviously it is driving conference realignment. so ignoring machinations within the football apparatus would be like investing in retail stocks but not understanding amazons disruptive business model |

For what it's worth, I've heard that Danny Wolf grew up a huge Michigan fan, and that he was considering walking on there as a freshman vs. going to Yale. So it's kind of hard to blame him for wanting to go there now that they want him as a centerpiece (plus it might help allay some of the the-sky-is-falling concerns a bit). |

my guess is you have to put danny at the 4 anyway given how limited his post game is how do you defend the spread with 2 7 footers on the floor at the same yime is a ? |

I could see how that might be a serious matchup problem, even for Big 10 teams. Let's wait to see who ends up running the point for that team, though. |

Obviously those two would create matchup problems on the offensive end. Most college coaches are more worried about who the two seven footers are gonna defend on the other end. It's not a zero sum game. You can't score 80 and give up 90. |

The FAU transfer can take the post-defense/rim-protecto r duties off Wolf’s hands. And he’s more back-to-the-basket than Wolf offensively. Looks like a good complementary fit to me. |

as noted clearly they paid for dannys strengths and will likely not make him an old school 5 this being said iif he can gain any lift and rim finishing ability while at um the kid has quite a ceiling. he ate the ball too much at year end but he also showed his perimeter quickness to the rim against broome etc tough loss. but samson will likely blow up this year amd tear a rim off what a frontcourt that wouldve been. oh well |
