Negotiations are underway with Kate Paye, who played under VanDerveer from 1991-95 and has been a member of her staff for the past 17 seasons, to become VanDerveer's successor. Paye would become the program's fifth head coach beginning with the 2024-25 season.

Never mind …

Maybe. This would be a move up and, I suspect, more $, for Carla. I think it depends on how comfortable her situation at Princeton has become to her. Also, family and community ties would be part of her decision. I am hopeful that she is as happy with Princeton as we are with her. Great coach. She has enhanced a class program.

From all that I've read, we only need to be worried when Geno decides to retire and UConn wants to talk to Carla.

This is only an immediate issue if Chris Dailey retires at the same time. As with Dean Smith and Bill Guthridge, and as with VanDerveer and Paye, I’d expect Dailey to run the show for a bit.

That sure is possible, but Chris Dailey is going to be 65 in August, and Carla's 48 going on 49. That may imply ageism, but Carla's demonstrated her ability to win, win and win. If Carla does leave for Storrs, it would be interesting to see if Lauren Battista (early 30s) would go with her, or if John Mack and the search committee would promote her to the head coaching job, like Carmody following Carril.
