Very interesting. Don't know about the causes of action, but they make a very strong argument that it is unfair to allow other NIL athletes to play for 5 years and not them. I don't see it as an anti-trust issue, though. It's more of an Equal Protection claim with discrimination against Ivy Leaguers. From what they claim, however, they should have filed earlier, since their harm is not knowing their status during the window to sign portal transfers, and that ends soon. |

It does not appear they are seeking any expedited hearing, which is puzzling. I also wonder whether St. John's wants them back, and, if so, at what price. Presumably, if they get eligibility, someone will take them, but the NIL funds at many schools are going fast. |

For any of the lawyers on the board, would it matter that Ledlum was at Harvard in ‘20-‘21 but Dingle was not at Penn that year? |

No. That would only matter to the Ivy League, which caps eligibility in 4 years on campus without a waiver. These guys are complaining that everyone who played during the '20-21 season got another year of eligibility and it isn't fair that those who were not allowed to play that year did not get that extra year to play outside of the Ivy League. |

Was this not already addressed a couple years ago when Carli Littlefield petitioned for an extra year at UNC (after having played at Princeton)? I remember a Courtney Banghart tweet about it. But I do not believe it went to court. |

Your correct it was addressed but did not go to court. The hope is.. and obviously i defer to te lawyers and better educated then myself ( which incl almost everybody) that the NCAA wants no part of a lawsuit and this point regarding anything NIL related and they settle |

I think Ledlum has a far stronger case as he was in school in 20-21 and prevented from playing because the Ivies cancelled the season. Dingle on the other hand was technically not prevented from playing as he chose to withdraw from school, albeit to preserve his 4 years of Ivy eligibility. The argument on the other side with respect to being denied a 5th year of potential NIL earnings is that neither was denied that opportunity by the NCAA. In this era of immediate transfer eligibility both could have transferred and played elsewhere and then would have had their 5 years. They freely chose not to. Having made that choice of their own free will that cannot now go back and re-write history or the consequences of their independent decisions not to avail themselves of the opportunity to play in 20-21. If college athletics was still about the “college” part first that would be a pretty weak argument but we all know that the “college” part no longer has anything to do with it. |

This of course begs the question as to whether Slajchert and Knowling have 1 or 2 years of eligibility left at USC. |

How clear is it that Pitino even wants Dingle and/or Ledlum back. If not then he may have made as much as $500k in NIL money but it remains to be seen if Dingle made the right move financially in the long run by leaving Penn. He clearly did not help his pro prospects by doing so and if his goal was to play on the big stage of the NCAA tournament he failed in that effort also. |

He had nothing left to prove at Penn and his chances were far better off reaching the tourney at St Johns than at Penn. He made hundreds of thousands of dollars last year? Can't blame him one bit.

One may not think it was a great call in hindsight, but it seemed like a pretty easy decision at the time. |

I agree. When I talked to Clark early in the season, he thought he could play for one year, yet when he signed with USC, the articles seemed to indicate that he had 2 years of eligibility. He'd be in the same category as Knowling in that he was enrolled at Penn in the 2020-2021 academic year. |

Didn't Dingle drop out of school the pandemic year? Does that make his status different from somebody like Slachert who remained in school? |

Yes that was mentioned by Slane above. Although I am not sure it affects Dingle adversely since he made decisions based on the actions of his schools decisions, which he had no control over. But I have no idea the legal argument. |

NY Post picked up the story today--says St Johns has worked with both of these guys in making the decision to sue. https://nypost.com/2024/04/26/sports/chr is-ledlum-... |

Yesterday was the deadline to declare for this year's NBA draft and neither Dingle nor Ledlum's names were on there. |

Do you have to declare for the draft as a senior? |

"Since 2021, the annual list of “early” entrants has become even bigger than usual because the NCAA granted players an extra year of eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That means seniors who would’ve typically become automatically eligible for the draft now have the option of either declaring or remaining in college for an extra year." |

Right, but as of now, these 2 do not have eligibility and thus are automatically eligible for the draft. They are suing to regain college eligibility. That being said, I don't think either of them will be drafted. |
