63, in Los Angeles, a couple of ESPN Radio's hosts are calling for an SMU-like death penalty for PSU football. They feel that cleaning house and waiting 4 years for all existing players to graduate is warranted.
Given the amount of $$$ involved, I do not see it happening, but the idea has some merit.
The knock-on effects would be big. Penn State basketball might end up having bigger crowds but the non-revenue sports would get killed, since they rely on football revenue. And can you imagine a Big 10 school without football? Maybe they'd look for another league.
As long as I'm dreaming, I'd like to see Penn State apply to the PL (which, we now know, doesn't require football for admission) and get rejected.
