If the coach is instituting a dramatically different system and style, it could easily take an entire season for the team to get the hang of it. So this might be a really frustrating year for Columbia fans. However, assuming Engles knows what he's doing (which is a good assumption), the investment is likely to start paying off either late this season or next year.
