What prompted the force-out of the previous athletic director?
I only know the message board rumors, but one factor apparently was Richmond losing their very successful football coach to league rival Delaware after the 2016 season. I believe that Delaware offered him more money and easier admissions standards, but Gill got at least part of the blame. Also UR basketball has gone downhill a bit since Gill arrived, with many blaming a combination of the AD and Chris Mooney, the coach. The two years just before Gill's hiring saw A-10 records of 13-3 and 13-3. Since then, their league records, in order, are; 7-9, 8-8, 8-8, 12-6, 7-11, 13-5. Not sure how much is Gill's fault - and they did have a very good 2016-17 season.
Beyond the above, I am sure there were other factors.
