What a fun weekend of Brown basketball, playing great offensive basketball back to back in the two games they have lost the most in their history. They may have lost one and won one, and let’s be clear that it was two outstanding performances by Cambridge and Anderson that made it what it was, but it was nonetheless a great weekend for the program.

Cambridge looks like he has the chance to become one of those dynamic Ivy players they talk about for a long time. Graves, Saunders, Hunt, Allen - we’ll see. MM gives him a lot of license to create what he’s able to create, and shoot what he’s able to shoot. Not every offense would do that. But he’s somehow able to take people one on one without ball-stopping. And his shot taking and making ability is just incredible.

The importance of the play of Anderson cannot be overstated. I’m not sure how one has a ‘quiet’ 43 point - 10 assist weekend, but quiet or not, his movement of and with the ball is what makes life possible for this offense. I haven’t paid enough attention to other point guards in the Ivy to know if he’s the best in the league or not as a soph, but if he isn’t now, he will be. Still growing - yes. Over-dribbler - at times. But he is so good.

I do worry about our front court size and depth, but even there you see all the growing talent. MM went small both games - starting Obi (whose midrange game and ability to get it inside is having real impact) at the 4. And while it didn’t play great defensively, it made Brown very hard to guard and net-net helped more than it hurt. It’s noteworthy that Choh and Cambridge are able to guard the rim, with two huge blocks late from off the ball vs. Princeton, and that does help when you play that small.

Great weekend for the future of the team, and hints at what this collection of players may be capable of in that future.
LET'S go BRU-no (duh. nuh. nuh-nuh-nuh)
