The 1st and 2nd teams we played are both in Serie B which is semi-pro and at the third level of Italian basketball. The team we originally were going to play (Stella Azzurra) is also Serie B. They got into the Serie B playoffs and played several games this week. That probably was why they did not play us.

Penn luckily had a backup plan this time, and was able to get another local team (Rome has 5 Serie B teams) to step in to play us before all the players left for the summer. The Tiber Rome team we played was, we know, missing a couple of regular players but still gave Penn a good challenge. Both Tiber and the Bernareggio99 team had losing records this season in Serie B so they were available for exhibition games.

We don't know yet how many of the Bernareggio99 players were the regulars, and what effect that number may have had on the lopsided score.

Today's opponent is in a lower level of Italian basketball, but I'm not sure which level. The lower levels of Italian basketball are amateur.

End of post.
