In response to Wheeler
A little late in posting, but here is a very nice profile of Kyle Castlin at the Cincinnati Enquirer.
https://www.cincinnati.com/story/sports/college/ xa...
- Rodney Castlin put a basketball in his son’s hands when he was a toddler, and when Kyle was 4-years-old in Marietta, Georgia, Rodney was shot and killed.
“My mom was pregnant with my little sister and my father was working a night job at a hotel and someone just came in and robbed it,†Castlin said. “Basically, my father was trying to help a desk clerk, who was a woman by herself at the front, and I think just seeing a man, whoever the robber was panicked and just shot.
“So my father passed away when I was 4 years old. My mom was really good at taking care of me and my little sister, working multiple jobs. She worked real hard so I try to make her proud.†-
- Kyle’s been a great leader because he’s real, he’s authentic. He has an impact on our guys. It’s real life stuff, it’s bigger than basketball. Kyle’s seen that and unfortunately, he saw that way too early. Kyle lives every day like it’s his last because of that.
“I thought he was a good player. I watched a lot of film on him. I knew his character level was really good. Obviously, he went to a great school, Columbia.
“But I did not know we were getting what we got. Sometimes it’s hard to come in and be a grad transfer and all the sudden be a leader. I think that’s really unique. He’s trying to figure out his teammates, figure out the system, the staff, the surroundings. Everything’s different. Kyle acts like he’s been here for four years. He just fits in. He’s done that from day one. There wasn’t a feeling out process … our guys respected him immediately.†-
