Your instincts are fine, and have been impacted by the thousands of games you've played in & witnessed. If a timeout's not to be utilized in such an instance, then when would be the appropriate juncture? Factor in as well, that Engles' team was on the verge of completing three games in 45 hours; and that he'd been holding onto to his timeouts all afternoon as if they were redeemable for Thanksgiving turkeys on Thursday. By 6pm, Sunday, no doubt the Columbia kids had earned and deserved a minute's rest to compose themselves before playing out the final 8 seconds of that game.
