Actually not really. He talks a good game, but his performance doesn't warrant respect from basketball players or fans, and it definitely doesn't show up on the scoreboard. My opinion. Then there's that mysterious not playing for his sophomore year thing which I'm sure you're aware of that (his bio says "sat out the season") probably doesn't engender a ton of respect with his teammates. Flemings numbers YTD (24 mins/game):

22 for 57 FG's in 18 games. (.386) Barely over 1 FG per game for a starting point guard. Ugh.

11 of 33 3pt FG's in 18 games. (.333) A .61 3pt FG/game (less than 1 3pt make a game) for a starting PG. Ugh again.

14 of 15 FT's in 18 games. (.93%). Great, but less than 1 FT attempt/game. Ugh.

3.8 PPG avg. For a starting point guard? Awful

1.7 Reb's/game. ok

2.22 Fouls/game. ok

11 total turnovers. Better than most of the team.

1.94 Assists/game. For a starting point guard?? AWFUL. He runs the offense!

8 steals in 18 games?

And again, these numbers are gotten playing 24 minutes a game!

Barry's numbers (17 mins per game)make a case for him starting:

26 of 58 FG's in 15 GAMES! (.448%)! 1.73 FG's per game. Higher than Fleming.

16 of 36 3pt baskets in 15 games (.444%)! Just over 1 3pt FG made per game. Higher than Fleming.

25 of 32 FT's in 15 games (.781%). 1.66 FT's made/game. His % is lower than Fleming, but he gets to the line more than Fleming. Better points result than Fleming.

6.2 PPG avg. And 2.4 ppg better than Fleming.

Reb 1.5/game. Ok

Fouls 1.46/game. Better than Fleming.

Assists 1.6/game (in 17 mins vs Fleming 1.94 assists in 24 mins)

12 Turnovers in 15 games. Less than 1 per game. Ok, Difference with Fleming who's slightly better: negligible.

6 steals and 2 blocks in 15 games. Fleming 0 blocks.

Basic comparison as I didn't do stats per 40 mins, but Barry would have Fleming across the board if I did. So I ask again: What is Mcglaughlin waiting for? We're already losing. Fleming will be playing his last basketball games of his life in 7 games or so. Barry has three years and 7 or so games ahead of him. Fleming has been the starting pt guard in 15 losses. His numbers are anemic (his first game in 4 years where he scored in double digits was last night!) In four years??? What do we have to lose starting Barry?? It's not leadership. Talking a lot isn't helping our team on the scoreboard! We need numbers!! :-(
