This entire thread about old Baltimore is killing me. Went to 20 games a year in Memorial while the O's were there, and I had season tickets to the Baysox that year in Memorial. Can't embrace Camden Yards.
I agree with Johns Waters: the inner harbor (no caps) was better when it was sailors, lesbian bars and rats.
Tiger69's characterization of the city is spot on. Quirky indeed.
I lived in Pikesville as a shagitz for about 5 yesrs. Quite an experience. See the movies of Barry Levinson, especially Avalon (You couldn't wait to cut the turkey?) and Tin Men. Still drive across town to get my bagels at Goldsteins. Best experience was buying ground sage for the turkey stuffing in Christmas Day in a busy supermarket in the heart of Pikesville.
