Why would the Administration hamper those kind of efforts? Would appreciate any further details or insights.
It's pretty amazing when you think of it-- except for the Tom Gadd years (consistent success), our football program has been somewhere in the range of 4-7 to 6-5 year after year....
Because the first priority is building academic buildings and they don't want funds diverted to a football/lacrosse building or other major athletic projects if that might reduce contributions for their top priorities..
As for football, I can't give you exact breakdowns but here is how much was spent on football for scholarships, salaries, and recruiting expenses in the 2015 season, which is the last one with publicly available information:
Bucknell University $4,156,265
Colgate University $4,989,314
College of the Holy Cross $4,784,503
Fordham University $5,233,152
Lafayette College $5,078,526
Lehigh University $4,409,227
The Lehigh number is a bit strange/suspicious since they spent a lot more than that the previous season. As for the Bucknell number, there is no precise information on what creates such a large deficit relative to other schools - but I can't think of anything other than giving out fewer scholarships.
Note: During the glorious Gadd era, Bucknell was also giving out far less athletic aid than all of its PL rivals. Gadd did an amazing job despite a very unlevel playing field.
