Losing at the P's is something all of the 4th place contenders are predicted to do. Thus, starting off 2-4 should not harm Yale's chances to make the tournament. Next weekend, Yale hosts Columbia and Cornell, games that Yale will need to win - and will be expected to win. That 2-4 start could quickly become 4-4, with or without Mason, leaving Yale in good standing. Could be that Yale hangs with Brown, Columbia and Cornell for a while in the standings, eventually grabbing the 4th spot, especially if and when Mason does return.
Assuming favorites prevail this weekend, 2-4 Yale would be chasing 3-3 Columbia and tied with 2-4 Brown and 2-4 Cornell. If Columbia doesn't beat Harvard at Levien, Yale could be in a 4-way 4th place tie with its best player still expected to return. All 4 squads would have completed the road weekend at the P's.
Silver lining: Mason's delayed return is giving the season meaning again! At least for a little while, and only for 4th place.
