Today, my favorite baseball blog chose to delete its comment section after it became, in the words of the blog's founder, "a cesspool." That action led me to appreciate what we have here.
1. Despite all of the rivalries, victories and defeats have generally been handled graciously.
2. Anonymity emboldens bad behavior. Those on here who post under their real name, or under a recognized variant of their real name, elevate the discussion. And, so I don't sound like I am patting myself on the back, I acknowledge that those who post using pseudonyms have also maintained the proper level of decorum.
3. If Mike, or Jake, before him, has ever had to ban someone, it was done quickly and quietly.
4. Each school's posters have politely attempted to restrain the occasionally emotional member of their group.
5. Political comments have been defined as OFF TOPIC, a ban which has been honored, and enforced, by "both sides of the aisle."
Let's acknowledge what a good thing we have here and keep it going at the same high level.
