Yes, it makes a lot of sense because it greatly rewards winning the regular season. It also allows the #1 seed to be rested for the final, which is another earned advantage. However, having only one semi lessens the spectacle the league wants and reduces ticket sales, so I doubt we'll see such a sensible solution.
