Data driven mathematical forecasts of the type used by the "Columbia Researchers" can be easily used to second guess the timing of any important historical event whether the example is Trump's response to the current pandemic or Roosevelt's decision not to assist militarily in the defense of millions in Europe and Asia for several years until the United States was finally attacked by the Japanese at Pearl Harbor. Surely, that was an error as was Lincoln's fateful decision to go to the Ford Theatre. Incidentally, I am not evaluating whether the findings of the "Columbia Researchers" were right or wrong, I'm just pointing out that historians have never taken mathematical driven analyses seriously.
