Brown, Cornell, Harvard, and Penn enter this weekend with essentially no daylight among them in the rankings. Two will make the IL Tournament. Penn’s 5-2 record, with wins over Harvard and Yale, reflects their great play since the Columbia game. The Quakers have the inside track on a tourney spot. Brown needs to defend their home court to preserve their chances.

Many find this the biggest P’n’P weekend in Ithaca in 12 years. The attendance restrictions seem to have been relaxed a bit. Cornell has played some outstanding halves of basketball to beat some pretty good teams (note Colgate, Harvard, @Brown). Their above average offensive rebounding efficiency, turnover rate, and bench usage reflect a pace of play that yields easy buckets. However, the Red is prone to annoying low-productivity streaks. Whether it is pressure defense by the opponent or lapses by Cornell is not always clear, but they happen (also @Brown, @Princeton), negating those great halves.

Cornell is unbeaten this season in Newman Arena. A Red sweep this weekend is not out of the question. It took a buzzer beating 3ptr by Matt Allocco to deny the Red a road win at Jadwin. Hopefully, the Red practiced more against backcourt pressure this week. Having all-purpose guy Greg Dolan back on the floor would be great. The fact remains that both Princeton and Penn will head home with W’s if they can force Cornell into those unproductive streaks.
