Coach Reed, while I am sure he dose not believe in moral victories, can not be too disappointed in the way his team preformed out in State College yesterday. Sure, a loss is a loss, but going toe to toe with a Big 10 squad for a full 30 minutes of play, holding the lead for much of that time, and hitting nearly 50% of their shots - had to bring a smile to his face and to those who follow the exploits of this young team. Now, it's time to board the bus and head to 3030 Broadway - home of the Colombia Lions who will be playing their 2254th game of their 107 year storied program.

Looking over the numbers below and the manpower we'll face - particularly under the basket - it promises to be a rugged encounter and a "toss-up" for us to win.

Team / Record / RPI / SOS

CU / 4-7 / 204 / 205
LU / 6-6 / 305 / 337

Columbia will undoubtedly send out 4 seniors and 1 junior to start the game. In the package will be their senior tri-captains: Baumann, Montgomery, and Loscalzo.

Players to keep an eye on would include:

John Baumann, 6'8", 220 lb Forward, is the Pre-season Ivy League Player of the year. He has proven to be a wise choice, leading his team in ppg (14.5), minutes played (28.8 per game), and rebounds (72). He's presently the Ivy's 4th leading scorer (a thousand pointer, at that) and #1 offensive rebounder. Oh yeah, he hits 48.8% of his FGs and 74.1% of his FTs.

Ben Nwachukwu, 6' 9", 235 lb Center, averages 20 minutes of playing time and is second on the team in rebounds (5.1 pg)and can be counted - like a slew of other player - to contribute 6-8 points per game (a true strength of this team).

K. J. Matsui, 5' 11", 180 lb Guard, is the team's second leading scorer (8.8ppg) and their 3pt specialist, hitting on 53.5% of his attempts.

Columbia's.....
Last Win (12/10): St. Francis(NY)by 19.
Last Loss (12/22): Villanova by 16
Last Game (12/29): A win over non D-I, Polytechnic by 46
Best Win (12/4) : Wagner (RPI 187) by 14

Our Common Opponents:
Albany - CU loss by 32 (LU loss by 12)
Stoney Brook - CU won by 20) (LU won by 15)

A payback game for both teams. Two years ago, Jose Olivero and Bryan White led a late game 19-5 run to down the Lions. Lehigh foiled a number of Columbia in-bound plays near the end of the game and applied tremendous defensive pressure to seal the win. Last year, Columbia returned the favor at Stabler beating us in the final 0.04 seconds of play when Columbia's Niko Scott grabbed a last second rebound and put a shot on which he drew a highly questionable foul call. Of course, Niko sank them both and Lehigh loss the game by one, 55-55.
