Although the Lions have a better record than they have in the past couple of seasons, their strength of schedule is one of the worst in the nation. This was definitely a year Jones wanted to pad his win total. Another poster alluded to playing Savannah State next year, I wouldn't doubt it.

After eight straight Ivy losses going into final weekend, it's obvious Jones needs to pad recruiting and get one genuine big man with talent, instead of "padding" his win column,

Columbia, more than anything, needs an athletic guard. Looking forward, they need someone who can beat defensive pressure, create some steals and assists...wouldn't hurt if he could shoot a bit, but CU has some guys who can do that.
Big Ben has enough talent as long as he is not the "man" right now. Jones came in with the cupboard bare----what you want to do there is get the superior point guard to create opportunities. They don't have that and won't win until they do.

I really don't think they're missing that many pieces. Baumann looked fine last weekend after missing most of the year with injuries, and Nwachukwu has improved a lot since the start of the year. I thought Montgomery was their athletic guard until he fell off the face of the earth toward the end of the year. Loscalzo is not lightning-fast, but he can drive the lane and shoot the three. And as with all of the preceding, he's only a freshman.
This team has the guys to make some noise in the league as long as they can learn to work together. I thought Jones was doing a good job with that until these last few weeks. But I'm optimistic about next year and the ones after.

You're right re need for athletic guard play. One either needs a very athletic SG (e.g., Draughan) with a solid PG or, more typically, an athletic PG. CU's two incoming guards are combos; don't know how athletic they are, but Scott is one of the best two players on nationally-ranked Christ the King in NYC.

Agree with P-38 re need for athletic guard, but also need first-line scorer/rebounder down low. You can't win a title without covering all the bases. Improve one and you're still short on the other position (or maybe two others). I just picked what felt like No. 1 need. True, you're nowhere without first-rate pg, but a first-rate pg is nowhere without a big man. Lions need to shore up several places. Hope they can make steady progress so there will be a Jones era. Ending season with nine straight losses--probably 10 the way Yale's been playing--is not the way to do it.

If Ben isn't the big man, then what was all of the fuss all about? Was Sweet supposed to be the point guard before he got hurt?
