This is a very, very bad matchup for Cornell. In fact, I couldn't imagine a worse one.

Really shocking that this is the way the committee decided to go. Especially with Wisconsin in the 2nd round. Yikes.

I agree and I think Temple was under seeded as well.

There's been some weird #%$@ already, even before we see who got dropped off the bubble. How the #%$@ is Florida a #10, for example?

Greg Anderson is right: Siena may actually be favored over Purdue. Cornell might have benefited by getting dropped down on the S-curve.

Has Dunphy ever lost to Donahue? Bad match for Cornell. They don't even get any advantage of surprise. In addition, the 12th seed is a shame for a team that was once nationally ranked.

VERY tough break for the Big Red (for all the reason mentioned elsewhere). It looks like the Committee decided to get cute with their matchups.
Meanwhile, Siena actually lucked out with their 13-seed. Facing a Hummel-less Purdue first round? Heck, they could plausibly have an Elite 8 run if they get a little help...

How can anyone take the committee seriously when they moved Temple down two spots to get a matchup? For New Mexico, which is behind Temple in RPI, Sagarin and Pomeroy, to get a 3 while Temple gets a 5 is just absurd.

A daunting task, no doubt. Temple is one of the best defensive teams in the country (except for when they played Kansas).
On a more facetious note, I declare that if Cornell loses, it's Fran Dunphy's fault. Dunphy should have been a better mentor and teacher to Steve Donahue. After all, Donahue is part of the Penn coaching tree. So a Cornell loss must be hung on the Penn legacy.
Anyone know where Donahue will be coaching next season?

I would be absolutely livid if I were a Temple fan. Hell, I am livid. What a joke.

To focus for a moment on the positive, am I correct that this is the best seed for the league since 2002? That's a positive achievement.
On the down side, I agree with everybody else on the matchup. The key to winning a game for Cornell is/was getting lucky and drawing a team of comparable or lessor talent (as Penn and Princeton each got the last time they won a tourney game) or getting a team that will be susceptible to Cornell slowing the pace on them. This game is neither of those. I guess the good news for me as a fan is that either Dunphy or Donahue is going to get a tourney win this year. But it should have been a year where we had a chance for both to win.

The good news for me is that I'll be in Florida this weekend for Spring Training. Now I just have to a) pray that Cornell-Temple is in the afternoon session, and b) convince my three bozo friends that making the four-hour trip from Clearwater to Jacksonville and back (so we can catch the Phils game Friday night) is worth the trip.

Favorite BRF line so far: "Don't listen to the media. Temple is not that familiar with this team."

I don't think Cornell truly favors slowing the pace. Princeton successfully slowed the pace against the Big Red in both games but Cornell edged them out. Dunphy will know that he needs to keep on Wittman during the transition, so Temple will be hustling back. So Cornell will have to run its plays. It'll be interesting to see how Temple matches up with Jacques, as a 4 who shoots the 3 well. And who will Jacques guard? He's quite foul-prone.

I think you've identified the most interesting positional matchup. The 4 spots on these two teams couldn't be much more different. Temple loves to play its two bigs in the game at the same time (Allen and Eric), but neither guy is comfortable extending out to the three point line defensively. And Cornell most likely will put Foote on Moore, leaving god knows who to cover the other seven footer.

Another factor that doesn't help Cornell: Temple doesn't turn the ball over. Top 20 nationally at taking care of the ball. So getting cheap points, including uncontested Wittman threes in transition, is going to be very, very hard.

Eh. On the other hand, they don't force a lot of turnovers either. Or get to the line. Or shoot it all that great. There's plenty to like in the matchup for Cornell, too.

But on the plus side for Cornell, Temple is unlikely to run away and hide so they should be able to stay in the game, Guzman is just okay, the Owls aren't crazy athletic (although they're more athletic than Cornell) and it's not like Donahue's going to have to watch tons of tape to know what Dunphy's doing.
Objectively speaking, it's a fascinating matchup. Subjectively, it su--s for both coaches and both teams.
