From a die hard Penn fan...congratulations to the Big Red on two tremendous performances in the NCAA's. Sweet 16 draw is tough, but the team is on a roll, so who knows.

Best Ivy team since the '79 Quakers. Here's to Cornell getting that far this year!

Congratulations on an amazing performance!
What is doubly pleasing, from a league standpoint, is not only that an Ivy team has reached the Sweet 16 but that it has done so in a classic and exciting fashion, i.e., not by relying on an alternative style of play, e.g., the Princeton offense.

Just a jaw dropping couple of games. A very good team that had the weekend of their lives. Surreal.

Congrats. The team looked fantastic

And you're welcome for Penn beating you to knock you into the more Sweet 16 friendly 12 seed instead of an 8-10 seed.

My, my, we certainly are nostalgic for the good old days. Why, I remember ... uh, what was I saying?

Great game Big Red! I only wish that I had seen more of it instead of the Maryland-Michigan State teaser.

This one was so fun to watch. Cornell looking like they could play in any conference in the country, and beat anyone in the country. Not just a good basketball team.

I love love love that this team is so much better than the Allen-Maloney Penn team, the Earl-Goodrich Princeton team, the U-Koko Penn team. I know the P guys have to be stewing just a little bit after one of the perennial also-rans runs off the best dynasty in the Ivies in this generation, and actually succeeds on the national stage rather than simply not getting blown out in round 1.

Aaaaaahhhhhh. That's nice.

So happy for Cornell, for the league, and for the fact it's looking like this will never be a P-dominated league again!
LET'S go BRU-no (duh. nuh. nuh-nuh-nuh)

The next few years for this league will be mighty interesting. Who's coaching Cornell next year? If he's not Steve Donahue, can he parlay this run into some high level recruits? Is Tommy Amaker long for the Harvard job? Whither Penn?

I think the days of the Ps dominating the league for decades at a time are over, but that doesn't mean Princeton won't win the league next year or that Penn won't be right back in contention soon.

Yeah, I was just goofing. Princeton's only a slight favorite next year and after that, who the heck knows. But you gotta think Donahue just punched his ticket elsewhere -- not that he's eager to leave Cornell, but it's clearly a perfect time to move on.

I'm not stewing in the least bit. I hope they make it to the Final Four.

I can't say I'd be feeling the same if this were Princeton, and I suspect I'm not alone.

Congrats Cornell! With the owls out, the teams I'm rooting for are Cornell and St Mary's (go Aussies!).

It's really amazing what one good coach can do for a program. Cornell is actually playing as good as in anytime this season.

Congrats on peaking when it really counts.

Masterful performance. Great coaching, great performances by the big 3 seniors, solid contributions all around. Wire and Coury deserve a heap of credit for their defense and hustle.

You better believe Kentucky has to be nervous about drawing Cornell in the Sweet 16. And I can't believe I just typed that.

I hate the comparisons of is this team better than some team that played 15 or 30 years ago, but from a personal viewing standpoint, the best back-to-back games I ever saw an Ivy team play were Jerome's senior year when Penn led Columbia 48-8 at the half (at Columbia) and the next night went to Cornell and led 48-9 or 49-8 at the half (pchrystie and I argue about this and never bother to check).

These two Cornell games, obviously against much better competition and with much greater significance, may be even better in terms of pure offensive execution. Total domination with every player playing their best. It's incredibly rare to see an entire team in the zone, but they've been incredible.

And I'm not bitter at all about it.

So which job does Donahue want? Because he's got his pick now.

I dunno, I think it depends what St. John's does. If, as Dick Weiss said in the NYDN, the Johnnies are really willing to open the vault for Billy Donovan, then a favored NY son like Tom Pecora might move from Hofstra to Seton Hall or Fordham and not St. John's. Don't think Donahue could get St. John's and who needs that grief. Also don't know how Donahue gets along with the Hurleys but he might have a shot at Seton Hall (if Danny Hurley doesn't want it), definitely Fordham if he wants it. Maybe Charlotte. Nice city and lots of direct flights to Philadelphia.

No idea where the family would be willing to move, but if Tubby Smith goes to Auburn, Minnesota might be an option. Maybe also Depaul. He and Fran McCaffrey may be battling over a few of the same jobs.

The winters in Minnesota wouldn't be any worse than Ithaca. And Minneapolis is a real city. Well realer than Ithaca, and with a major airline hub.

DePaul would be an interesting challenge: seems like a longterm turnaround project - the question would be whether the AD and the adminstration would give him anywhere near the time he got at Cornell (2 full recruiting cycles plus) to rebuild the program from scratch, which might be what's necessary. Someone on ESPN was saying right after that firing (I think it was Fraschilla) that they really need an on-campus arena there - the campus is on the North Side, but they play their games all the way out by O'Hare in the former Rosemont Horizon, and that just doesn't cut it anymore except for the occasional game.

I could see Charlotte wanting McCaffrey because the Greensboro experience would make him familiar with recruiting the state.

Lost in all the celebration is the recognition that perhaps the league could have sent a better, hotter team if only the other seven had been given the opportunity of a tournament. Unfortunately, we'll never know how really impressive this postseason COULD have been.
