You're assuming Clay Wilson's full name is Clay Spencer Gloger Wilson.

Actually, we're hoping that God changes his mind and decides to let Clay know that maybe his original decision wasn't so bad after all.

Clay Wilson to attend Princeton ... 05-19-11 09:15 PM - Post#105379
In response to Tiger69
... per PBN, based on a tweet that asserted that Wilson finally gained admission.
Pretty weak confirmation. Why would he have just been informed of his admission? Does Princeton have a wait list?

I find this hard to believe - we've been informed that Tulsa would be better suited for him by those in the know. Anyway, he recently made 2d team all-state. http://www.tulsaworld.com/sportsextra/article.aspx...

Soooo...
He IS coming to Princeton after all? I'm still not sure what's going on.
The tweeter in question is a pastor, not a coach or sports writer, so he might just have the "terminology" mixed up -- that is, "was accepted today to play basketball at Princeton" = "decided to accept his admissions offer and play basketball at Princeton").

So when he decommitted, he hadn't yet been accepted? Hmm.

The tweeter is a pastor. Is young Mr. Wilson particularly religious? If so, after Saturday he'll have been raptured, so none of this matters.

Perhaps he has seen the secular humanist light and will, therefore, be left behind with the rest of us on Saturday.

This is an interesting development. Since he apparently wasn't accepted with the rest of the Class of 2015, I wonder if this was another thing that annoyed SJ in the alleged conflict with West College. And maybe Walters or somebody else put on some pressure to get Wilson accepted as a welcome gift to Henderson. Let's hope Jon Solomon or another can shed some more light on how this played out. Maybe a women's fencing recruit/admit decided to go to Columbia and a spot opened up?

Let's stay away from idle speculation, gang. Unless someone has some inside info, we really don't have any idea what the story is.
All we know about Wilson is that the newspapers report he has a 4.0 average, which would make him admittable, unless his SAT's were horrid.
He's coming - good for him - time to move on.

Yeah good luck waiting for Jon Solomon to break a story like that. That's as likely as to show up on the Princeton athletic site.

Do we know this for sure? I mean, was he merely "accepted" or has he officially chosen to come to Princeton?

Yeah, how about a little fanfare a la Denton Koon so that he will have a tough time changing his mind again.

If you believe what is found on the Internet, Wilson had an ACT of 28, ranked 4th in his class (total enrollment k-12 750).
By my quick rough calculation this translates to an AI of 193. Princeton has an avg AI of about 220-225. Athletes avg 208-210. Athletes need to avg about 1 STD dev from the mean. 193 could be in a low band for Princeton. So I think we are close to understanding what is going on, if Wilson didn't get in right away.

What also may have happened is that when Wilson said he wasn't coming Princeton may have given this AI spot to another sport. May have taken some time to work that out, have to remember the averages have to work out across multiple sports. Princeton only has a limited number of lower basketball AI's. It's not Harvard.

Man, I guess that COULD have happened but I think it's far more likely that he bailed out because he wasn't yet admitted.
If he was admittable, bailed, couldn't find anything he liked/wasn't wanted, then came crawling back, I think Princeton people should feel pretty underwhelmed.
But if it was an admissions thing, now you got something fun.

I confess that I do not understand the AI formula and my math is pretty weak. But, an ACT score of 28, according to what I could find, puts one in the 92nd percentile of performance on the test (i.e. 92% of the tested population score at, or below 28). Admittedly, for Ivy applicants that probably is low, although I don't know where the median Princeton applicant or admitted applicant would fall.
It troubles me that this information (one's ACT score) is so apparently easy to find. Did Mr. Wilson publicize it? If there is such a thing as privacy left in this world, I don't think that one's test scores should be out there on the internet for everyone's entertainment.

Clay Wilson to Princeton 05-21-11 05:39 PM - Post#105448

Local news item w/ more details:
http://www.wgog.com/news.php
An Oklahoma high school basketball player with ties to Walhalla has been accepted by Princeton University. On the eve of his high school graduation, Clay Wilson found out that he has been accepted by the Ivy League school . . . and is looking forward to not only four years of academics there but also a spot on the Princeton Tigers basketball team. Clay's father is former Walhallan Dean Wilson. The Wilsons have several relatives in the area, including WGOG's Ann Anderson. Besides Princeton, Clay had narrowed his college choices to Tulsa and the College of Charleston.
Sounds like he's confirmed to attend -- not just accepted. Woo! (and whew). I'm guessing CofC was a "preferred walk-on"-type deal (three guards in their 2011 class). Tulsa expressed earlier interest and was looking for guards at the 11th hour, so it's possible they had an actual offer for him.
