Loyola improves to 6-3 in the MAAC and 10-9 overall. Olson led the way with a career high 21. Hall had 16 and Drummond had 14. Walker finished with another strong game with 9 pts and 13 boards. Loyola was up by 12 at the half and Marist played well to get back into the game but the Hounds played tough down the stretch to get the win. Now is a big week with home games against Siena and Iona.

2-0 this week would be monstrous. 1-1 this week is about expected. 0-2 this week would put us back where we were a few weeks ago.

Good road win -- Olson stepped up and Hall and Drummond played well in 1st half
Any word on Barney not making the trip?

I assume due to the lack of PT lately that Barney left the team.
Nice win now 2 big ones coming up.

I still say the team plays better without Barney, we all know he can score the basketball but it seems that we play more like a team when he is not in the game. This game wasnt as pretty as it should have been but any win on the road is good. Loyola now has a legitimate chance to finish 3rd or 4th in the MAAC which is considerably higher than most of us predicted, of course they could slip up and end up in the PIG too. Gotta get this next one vs. Siena because iona will be tough. Hopefully there will be a nice crowd on Friday.

Siena game is huge for the reasons 09 said... the iona game is against a better team, on a lazy sunday afternoon 2 days after a game
Siena is only a shadow of what they were.. Rossiter will be a handful for our bigs but I think we have the advantage on the guard side..
nice win against Marist.. a little disheartening to see Marist come all the way back but equally impressive to hold on for the win on the road, Olson was huge in that game

the team is playing well right now against lesser competition in the maac...granted we beat fairfield and st.peters close games which is good wins but we played to close to marist and if you watched the games you know there missing barneys presence. he demands attention when hes out there which frees up other players. we need him to finish in top 5 of the maac

then why have we won 4 in a row when he wasn't playing?
and to say we are playing well right now due to lesser competition.. but then you name 2 exceptions.. out of the last 4 games? that doesn't really make sense. Fairfield has lost 1 game in the MAAC this year.. to us, not lesser competition at all (Barney played 8 minutes in that game)
We got destroyed by Iona, lose at Fairfield and lose vs. St. Peter's
Those are our 3 losses, Barney averaged 26.3 min..
In the wins... Barney averages 6.8 minutes per game
Case closed, we do not need him to finish top 5 in the maac.
Barney is a great player but we are a better team without him in the game.. he gets attention which frees up other players.. but other players that he doesn't find, and then he goes and shoots 3-11 from the field... not helpful.

with loyola's offense that is based on passing the ball and getting the defense to move his constant chucking up quick shots and driving into traffic kills the flow. if the offense was more of a dribble drive system his game might be better suited. IMHO he is best in transition and coming off of screens. his absence has let Hall and Drummond really step up this year as well.

I don't see how anyone could argue that we need Barney to finish well in the MAAC. Along with other posters here, I've given my opinion that he is a great talent but not one that makes our team better at this point. Plus, I would rather see Hall, Drummond, Olsen, etc getting his minutes as we have them all for one to three years to come respectively.
I think the Marist win, while against lesser competition, showed some grit that Loyola teams of the past few years have not had. We got a big lead at half, let the home team come back, but then took the lead back and kept it down the stretch. It was great to watch.
Didn't look like Brooks made the trip either. He has seen limited action this year; I expect him to transfer. Anyone have an inside scoop?

No offense to Wiegand (he might develop down the line), but it's tough having him as the first big man off the bench right now.
Disappointed the staff couldn't develop Brooks.

Wiegand is good for a few minutes here and there but he doesn't have the speed to play alot of minutes right now. I have a feeling Brook brought alot of his problems on himself with his attitude/work ethic.
