I'm glad we have a coach; now let's get back to building the program.
I know nothing of his coaching style. I certainly hope he is as flexible as Sydney Johnson was in terms of adapting to his players. I personally would NOT like to see a regression to a more rigid style, as occurred when Scott followed JTIII.
And I hope the very next move is to keep Brian Earl.

Question is whether he can get this high anymore?

You would think Earl would leave to Fairfield, probably get a salary bump and be on a team with a better shot to get to the tournament next year. Plus Johnson will probably get a BCS job before Henderson so if Earl follows Johnson he will have a faster track to a head coaching job

I'll say this-- Henderson is one of the best athletes I ever saw in a Princeton uniform. And that's high praise, particularly when you consider that he played on one of the most athletically gifted teams in Princeton history.

I can get behind this. At least he's been following the team closely, so there's a little more continuity than you'd have with most other new hires.

Probably true, as moves in a chess game, especially if he senses that Henderson will be there for a while. Mostly wishful thinking on my part.
And Henderson might leave in 2 or 3 years if he is phenomenally successful. After all, we are just a stepping stone......

Womp womp. Missed on my guess of Earl. With Henderson coming from NW, he's got a jump on all the kids that Princeton would be looking at on the recruiting trail so that's good news.

Henderson seems to be Carmody's top assistant. None of my business, but I wonder how his Northwestern assistant head coach salary will compare to his Princeton head coach salary - since it seems to be the big issue recently.

I didn't realize he'd gone to Culver Military. It's not much of a sports school but combined with his NU ties Princeton is going to be in great shape in the Chicago area (which is probably one of the three biggest Ivy recruiting zones).

Good for Mitch. I'm glad we're staying in the Princeton family. Don't know much about his coaching style, but I'm sure that Princeton understands what he's like. Hopefully, his personality is more in the style of JT3 or SJ, as opposed to Scott's.
Regarding Earl, no telling what he'll do. He may not look at Fairfield as a great step forward. It's possible that Carmody asks him to go to Northwestern.
His career goals may not even include the desire to become the head coach at a BCS program, which pays well, but often (generally?) requires compromises when it comes to academics.
We can speculate, but unless someone here knows Earl well, it's only speculation.
Let's get behind Mitch Henderson now.

Henderson's 11 years and BCS recruiting experience (as mentioned, NW has some similar targets as the Ivy) must have been the clincher for Henderson. I'm disappointed that it's not Earl, and if BE leaves, I'll officially be worried. But Earl was the assistant in contact with Denton Koon, so I wouldn't be surprised if BE stayed.
I don't know. It's just uncomfortable not knowing what a guy's coaching style or demeanor or specific strengths are. Maybe Henderson can make a "splash" early on to inspire confidence -- get Clay Wilson to recommit and bring a quality late recruit aboard (perhaps a kid NW had interest in, but decided last minute not to offer).

Get over it. Your insistence on familiarity is silly. You, as a fan, don't actually KNOW Brian Earl. You certainly don't know how he'll be in the top spot where you generally have to adjust your demeanor. You dismissed another guy you don't know, Newsom as if he had nothing to do with your success and were sure Earl had everything to do with it.
Henderson has a better resume than Earl. Presumably he performed better in the interviews. You'll survive.

So after all that, Princeton hired the next guy in the family in line to be hired.

Or, in a dream scenario, someone like this:
http://twitter.com/#!/TeddyGreenstein/st atus/60774...
John Cannon (C, 6-11, 230) was someone who Princeton offered early before being muscled out by higher profile programs (e.g. Georgia, ODU, Richmond, and recently NW also offered). That tweet is presumably more about Cannon opting for one of the big boys, but this is the kind of potential "splash" I'm talking about with Henderson.

Yeah, how dare I go on a fan forum and speculate based on what I've seen.

but you haven't "seen" anything. I think you people need to understand that basketball didn't begin with Princeton and that other people, not at Princeton and in some rare cases, never associated with Princeton, know how to coach. Yes, you can end up with Glen Miller that way, but you can end up with Joe Scott your way.

I think he meant it might means Cannon winds up at UGA instead of Princeton.
