To me as a fan, Canday's departure comes as a shock. (Will Scott's did not, as his future team role as far more dubious) Canady had a strong run down the stretch, including winning Ivy League Rookie of the Week in the second half of the season. His body language on the floor also suggested he was having fun out there, he was always one of the most animated players (a real rah-rah type).
Although not a likely starter next year as he would have to compete with Graham Dow (the favorite for point guard duties) and Khaliq Gant (the favorite for the second guard because he is the best shooter on the team and also a better ball handler), Canday did have a major upcoming role in the rotation as a combo guard reserve.
Canady's departure, factored in with the loss of Will Scott, will now force Cornell to essentially use a three-man veteran guard rotation of Dow, Gant and Lenny Collins. I expect Gant will handle the ball when Dow is off the floor, sliding Collins at second guard during Dow's rest minutes.
Freshmen Adam Gore and Jason Battle, as well as mult-purpose David Lisle may also find roles in the backcourt rotation.
