See "More Work to be Done" for his explaination. I will say all of the X responses made this all a bit more hard to follow for one who has been here for the duration.

29 pts last night in first loss of season 75-58 to Bellaire in a foul plagued game in which Hass sat much of the second half.

Senior guard Chris Hass scored a game-high 37 points, and added six rebounds and eight steals to lead Pellston to a 68-29 victory over Johannesburg-Lewiston in Ski Valley action on Friday.Lets hope he is playing some defense as well.Someone is going to have to replace BC.

I'd be surprised if a kid who puts up those kind of offensive numbers played anything close to the defense of BC.

I think GreatLakeState would also be surprised. He made a comment on the other thread about Hass' defense definitely not being up to the standard of his offense.
BU (and every other team) has had very few freshmen come in who are ready to play D1 defense. That is one reason Cohen was such a nice recruit - having the ability to guard so many positions even his first year. And he has improved each year at that end of the court. It's too bad he never got to play with a healthy Tyree. That would have been some defensive combo for their two years together.

Methinks we are comparing apples and oranges here. BC was never an offensive star or "shooter" even in HS. He is truly a stopper for us and he'll be missed. Special defensive talents.
Haas is a scorer and offensive talent who plays against small school (read "suspect") competition. So we really should be comparing him and his potential to Bryson or Brackney and not BC. He's probably not playing tight defense, and doesn't have to, in the Ski Valley Conference.

True, there is definitely an element of apples-to-oranges. BC was a pretty good offensive player in HS though - averaged about 18 ppg against strong opposition (MUCH better than what Hass plays against) and scored at least 1/3 of his team's points. And he was always the focus of the opponents' defense.
BTW, I wonder how many remember that BC averaged almost 12 ppg for the Bison as a frosh and was also 3rd in rebounding and 2nd in assists iirc. He played close to 34 mpg as well, and is one of only four Bison in many years (maybe ever) to play more than 1000 minutes in a season. With Tyree out that year, BC was already the BU defensive stopper as well.

He has been an extremely effective player for the Bison, and has adapted his play to the needs of the team....doing what it takes. His DPOY honors are well deserved it is his consistency on defense that makes the Bison M2M as effective as it is. No doubt he could score more, but that's not his role.
What a ride!

Hass had 28 points, 14 rebounds, and 5 assists in a 40-point win. He had 14 points in the first quarter and likely didn't play much more than two quarters. Pellston is now 12-1.

Building up his stamina to play 25 minutes will take time. Ah, transition.

The best part of his incredible line is that he scored those 35 on 10-12 shooting. 9-9 from the line. That works out to six 3s for those not wanting to relive Algebra 1.
Talk about not forcing anything.

Thanks. One brief article is now up:
http://www.petoskeynews.com/sports/pnr-pellston-w i...
Both teams are now 15-1. Pellston lost by 17 pts to Bellaire earlier in the year in a game where Hass missed a lot of time due to foul problems.

While you can question the level of competition he regularly plays against, there's no question the kid is lights out. Putting the team on his shoulders in their last game is also a good sign that he can play up to the level when needed.

The "35 points on 10-12 shooting and 9-9 from the free throw line" stat really stands out. I don't care what competition you're playing against. The kid is money.
