With our RPI at 86 we have a chance to get a TV (probably espn3) but it will be difficult since home teams around us include VCU, George Mason, and Butler all much more attractive home teams than us. Iona will obviously get a prime TV game. Us and Manhattan have an outside chance of getting one. Fairfield despite their recent struggles have a chance at a tv game due to the lack of quality road teams. One prediction I saw had us playing UNC Asheville in a non-tv game. Thoughts?

wrote up a comment but then it didn't post.. oh well..
Boston University. mid 170 RPI.. pretty much got screwed with this matchup.
Lunardi mentioned us as the #1 notable omission from TV games.
http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketbal lnation/po...
Similar opponents we have are UMBC and Bucknell... they killed UMBC but lost at Bucknell by 14.. who we beat.
A should win game in all honesty.

A decent matchup in the sense that it is fairly close geographically and the return game will be easier to make but we really did get screwed here. Every preview I saw had us getting a TV game. I could have been okay if we didnt get tv if we got a good matchup but the RPI arent even close. We had like the 10th or 11th best rpi of the home bracketbuster teams but I guess it didnt matter. Just go out and win get to the dance and no one will care about this game.

Both played and beat New Hampshire too.
Bad matchup in the sense that a W vs America East won't mean a thing
It was Katz who thought we got screwed:
"Notable omissions: Loyola (Md.) coach Jimmy Patsos has a right to be peeved that his team was left out of the TV portion of BracketBusters. The Greyhounds and Manhattan are tied with Iona atop the always-competitive MAAC, but only Iona made the cut in terms of television selections."
But only way we're dancing is winning tourney anyway. Conf reg season title gets us in NIT, but a good non-conference W might have helped if we don't win the conference either.
The danger is if we don't win any titles and they were to have an L to BU, would that keep them out of NIT?

They need to re-invent the bracket-buster. The expanded model is a joke.
I think the solution would be to go back to the original idea and just make teams "bracket buster eligable" have fewer games and put them all on TV. Make it so that being selected to particpate is an achievement in and of itself.
Let's face it. If you're not going to be on TV, the whole thing is worse than pointless. It disrupts the end of the conference schedule by dropping in a meaningless game.

JDP...I'm not sure how your system could work. You'd be asking a bunch of schools to keep their schedules open in case they have a game that day.
How would the schools handle their season ticket packages? Currently the home schools provide a ticket to that day's game with the opponent not listed. If they don't include a ticket because there may not be a game, how will they distribute tickets to this gamme? If they include a ticket "just in case" this will confuse the hell out of people.

It's only one game. It seems the NIT is able to schedule a tournament on the fly, I can't imagine it would be that difficult. You also have the flexibility of not having predetermined home teams - which would give you more wiggle room. Because it would be exclusive, teams would find a way to make it work. And if they can't, no doubt some other school will gladly take an empty spot and travel to get a TV game.
As for season ticket holders, it could be up to the schools to see how they would like to handle. Charge extra or not - it depends on the school's fanbase and what makes sense.

Yeah, you'd still have bracket buster eligible conferences.. so as a conference, all teams would have to keep those dates open, I kind of doubt too many teams/coaches would complain about having a couple extra days off.
I'm sure many fans today are wondering why they have to play their version of a Boston University and add another trip in to it.
Season ticket holders:
Agree with jdp about schools decide whether or not to charge.. but I mean in all honesty it wouldn't be that much different. You still wouldn't sell the seats that are owned by season ticket holders for that game and then you sell single game tickets like you do for every other game.
Agree that the whole home vs away thing wouldn't be the fairest.. but there's your incentive for having a better season (besides that winning games is fun) It'd be like the NCAA/NIT.. you get more money the better you are and the further you advance.

Since the idea behind the BracketBuster concept is to help a team's at-large resume perhaps they should limit the participants to leagues who have received an at-large bid over in the recent past, say the last 4 seasons. This would keep leagues like the America East and MEAC which provide the many of the "boring" matchups. Face it, if your league can't get an at-large bid in a four year period, it is not much of a league.

under your system the MAAC wouldn't be in it either haha... but yeah while I agree with that, you still have bottom feeders in good conferences playing other bottom feeders... there's really no point in that either.

Given the fact that Loyola will be the Friday Night game on ESPNU for three consecutive weeks (and 4 times total counting the Fairfield game), it seems the BracketBuster concept in more unnecessary than previously thought.
If MAAC conference games are being routinely covered by the network, who cares about the extremely limited updise of the Bracketbuster?

especially now.. we have Iona and then Fairfield... just huge games... and then the rest of MAAC play.. and we have to play this stupid meaningless game. There's just absolutely no draw to it at all.
A win does absolutely nothing for confidence. A loss completely destroys confidence. The chance of an injury in a b/s game is even scarier.
Starting 5 should be:
Wandrusch, Williams (Pierson, not RJ), Hall, Chido, and Brooks
(and I'm even skeptical to start Hall and Brooks, but there's no one else... think Hubbard is gonna be redshirted since he hasn't seen any time all year, otherwise he'd be in there too) Just let them play the whole 40.

Additionally, isn't ESPN 3 just a web streaming platform? it's not available on any tv provider that I know of... so I don't see how it can be considered national TV exposure. It's not.
I disagree with you on the importance of the Boston U game though. Since it is on the schedule now - we need to win it. I want an NIT invitation out of this season - at a minimum. The more games over 20 we can get in the W column, the better....

I think the risk of losing one of our starting 5 to injury is much worse than losing a game to BU in terms of our NIT invitation since you brought that up.
I didn't actually mean to start that starting 5... but if anyone is slightly nursing an injury, I would be fine if they didn't see any time in this game.
