Agree. Lehigh actually allowed Duke to hang around. Duke may say they didn't play their best game, but really, neither did Lehigh. CJ definitely makes plays that most guys do not make. He can be cocky, but he is good.

The thing that really struck me about Lehigh was confidence. CJ and the rest believed they were going to win from the opening tip and never relented.
That really is the key. LU was not just happy to be there, they wanted to win. We were the same in '05 and'06 and vs AZ. Last year we went to DC and talked the talk, and read all of that press baloney that we could pull the upset (which was based on what a different BU team did years earlier)but I never got the idea that the guys thought they were there to win.
Wow, next year could be really special in the PL. How do we stop CJ without BC?

Bucknell beat Arizona playing tough M2M as well. I guess a PL team doesn't necessarily have to play a match zone to beat a high-major team.

Does anybody else, when Dr Bret Reid answers an interviewer's question, get the impression that they are listening to his doctoral thesis? lol

Pretty much. I almost expected some Powerpoint slides to pop out from the background.

OK, I have to ask; was this the biggest win in PL history? I think that given the 15 vs. 2 seeding, it just might be.

1 and 1a. No need to put one over the other. From seed lines and the fact it was Duke, you could say Lehigh. On the flip side, most people thought this Duke team was overrated, while KU in 2005 was penciled into many final fours.

atlanta - I read your post and had a moment of cognitive dissonance; I was momentarily and truly unable to process the thought "Who would Lehigh rather face in round 2."
Having re-grouped, I think Lehigh would give ND fits.
Go Bison!
Top 10 post of the year...
Given Lehigh's bracket and CJM's performance against Duke, they could make a run similar to Davidson's with Steph Curry..

Actually, now that I'm watching the ND-Xavier game, I think LU matches up much better vs. ND than vs. Xavier.

In terms of magnitude, I agree with the 1 and 1A approach, but in terms of impact on the public this one is bigger. That is because of the way the TV package works now as opposed to the way it worked in 2005. In 2005, if you were in PA or Kansas you got the BU/Kansas game. Most of the rest of the country was relegated to the internet telecast (a new thing at the time, and one for which I was extremely grateful )or, as I am sure was the case with most people you got the CBS updates and "look-ins."
Last night, LU was on in prime time on the CBS network and had to have played to a significantly larger audience than that which watched our win vs KU in 2005. For that reason it is bigger, and it will be a terrific recruiting aid for them. While we will ride on their coattails, and have our own good story to tell, they for the moment are 1 and we are 1A.

Lots of nice comments about CJ from the crew at operations central. Hard not to recognize him as the best player on the court after that game however. It was a national coming out party for him.

After LU lost to American they must have taken a good look in the mirror, because from that point on they have been something else. No doubt the best team in the league right now. Biggest difference, I thought in the 2nd half was that Knutsen, after sitting much of the first half, really came alive. McKnight, Hamilton and Adams all had their moments, so Duke had more to handle than just CJ.

63, I had not thought about the TV coverage. Yes, you are right. Significantly more people probably saw the Lehigh game.
I just love that it was Duke. It wasn't Maryland, Florida, nor Boston College. It was ACC and national power Duke. What are Billy P and Dickie V going to say about the Mid Majors now?

Sports Center just showed Lehigh students celebrating in the streets on campus. How many of them could've named a single player on their basketball team before tonight? Hopefully for the league's sake a few of them look up directions to Stabler Arena before November.

I was reading Sports Illustrated online and was very impressed by this CJ quote:
"It means a lot as a team, a family and as the Patriot League in general," McCollum said. "We wanted to come out here and protect this team and this family, get the win and we did that tonight."

Agreed. Tried to say this last year after our loss to UConn. Zone variations have their advantages for sure, but it comes down to who wants and it more and execution of your system.

We'll leave this one open for further discussion at another time. For now, congrats to LU.
