Hopefully he'll spend the next couple of days coaching his team on how to attack the matchup zone that helped the Bison beat his Xavier squad.

I cannot take time off to fly to AZ, but I feel a stomach flu coming on for Wednesday afternoon. My employees are going to have to carry the workload starting at around 5:30 (PT). Now, should I watch it at a bar or at home?
BTW, I love the photo of Mike dunking at 'Cuse. If the final result had been better, he would have to frame that one.

Hope BU is not worn out by the travel. I heard they had to bus to the Washington area last night and then were catching a plane to Phoenix this morning. Were apparently unable to get a charter lined up.

Holy smokes! Without a charter, you'd have to imagine they'd be hard-pressed to find that many seats on one plane.

Tucson is a tough place to fly to from NYC, let alone the Harrisburg area. Flights are not that frequent, and from most places they involve stops or changes. Wash to Phoenix probably makes sense. from there a 90 minute drive to Tucson. Nice place, great for golfers.

If they're flying out of Dulles, they can use the Greenway over from Rte 15 in Leesburg without coming all the way down to the Beltway. Saves a bit of time. Unless they are flying Southwest out of BWI.

I used to travel to Tucson all the time for work. There are indeed very few direct flights and I often flew in or out of Phoenix and drove the interstate -- it's an easy drive. FWIW, I like Tucson better than Phoenix. Wish I could make the trip. And I'm glad Derrick Williams is now playing for my Timberwolves and no longer at U of AZ.

I'd imagine getting home will be an adventure without a charter. Hopefully the team has enough confidence not to have booked a return flight for Thursday (I'd imagine if they win, they will stay out west for the Nevada or ORU game), which means should they lose, they will be looking for last second open seats back home...

It's amazing that the Patriot League has five postseason basketball games. The American women were undefeated in regular season but upset in the tourney by Navy. They face Villanova in the WNIT while Navy drew Maryland in the first round of the NCAAs. Here's hoping that one of these five teams can pull off an upset (would the American men beating Buffalo be an upset?). Go Bison!

Just spoke to the Arizon ticket office. The Bucknell allotment of tickets is sold out. Not sure if Bucknell purchased all of its tickets or whether tickets were returned and bought by Cat fans. In any event, over 7000 tickets were sold for tonight's game, which is an impressive showing. Probably one of the largest NIT crowds (except the American game of course )

I had incorrect info in my original post. Team actually caught a 10AM nonstop flight yesterday directly to Tucson. I'd guess they landed shortly after noon Arizona time.

Great effort. Makes me wish they played this well last Wednesday, but that's a nice consolation. I thought they were in big trouble after the joke foul-out call on Moose.
So are they just going to stay out there if they have to go to Nevada next?

What an amazing win! Cohen has to sit out the last 5 minutes or so of the 1st half and we maintain a 6 point lead. Muscala fouls out with 3 minutes left in the game and others step up. All in all it's just a fantastic win guys!
Now I can rest a little bit easier cheering on Lehigh Friday night since we got at least one post-season win this year...

Great win! Bucknell represented themselves well with a lot of confidence and poise. They played a great game. I though the announcers had an exceptional grasp about who the Bison are and it really made for a great evening for me, a fan. I really enjoyed watching the game, and who knows, we could win another. Eventually they come to madison Square garden which would be great!

Tremendous effort by the whole team. They clearly wanted this game and put together a great 40 minutes. Moose was great. Johnson continues to hit clutch threes. When he released that bomb in the final minute I had no doubt it was going in.
Zona fans (per their message board) not too pleased (especially with Miller!)
I think these announcers spent about 5 minutes prepping on Bucknell. It would've been a great drinking game to take a shot every time they said something wrong about the Bison.
On to Reno (Set that curfew!)...I am guessing the team will head straight there tomorrow. 2 wins to the Garden

Their message board, however, does not begin to approach the meltdown of the Xavier message board in December 2007 when the Bison got their first win over a Sean Miller coached team.

I DVRed the game and did not check text messages for 3 hours.
Wow, what a game. Cohen really shut down Fogg (?).
Bryson really stepped up his game.
The announcers did not know anything about Bucknell. I give ESPN a C for their coverage.
How far is the drive to Nevada from L.A.?

I was at Mckale Center for the game. Some observations
-Over 7500 attendance with less than 100 Bison fans. No Bison band or mascot so I was worried before the game
-this was a very physical game with the Cats trying to intimidate the Bison but our guys responded in kid and played a very tough game
-while we had some bad calls, we were also the beneficiary of some bad calls in our favor
-I think the Cats were surprised at our height and athleticism. Moose has a few inches on Az's tallest guy.
-while the stats will show rebounds about even, I felt that we dominated the boards and the inside game
-no question Moose was the best player on the floor. On several occasions he fought for the offensive rebound, was mugged but managed tonged the shot off.
-I'm not a big fan of Paulson but tonight he ran some offensive schemes that were very impressive, particularly with Moose and Willman running a high low post to open up Moose and also a few screens between Johnson to get Willman open in the corner.
-with about 4 minutes left in the first half the crowd started getting into and the guys looked a bit rattled for a few possessions but quickly recaptured their composure
-the crowd stood for the balance of the first half and all of the second half
-we were the better team tonight. it wasn't luck but skill and execution. I was proud of our guys and glad I made the trip
Now on to Nevada

I should also mentioned that all the guys were aggressive on the boards-moose, wilman, ayers, Cohen and Johnson kept attacking and fighting for the ball

I got the impression from this game that if we played them 10 times on a neutral court that we would win the majority of the games. This did not have the feel of a big upset to me.
That said, doing it in front of 7500 on a night that they didn't get another chance was very sweet.

100% behind you on that. We weren't outmatched in any way, and I feel like we were simply the better team. Once again, Moose was incredible. He's really proving himself to those who aren't aware of him - he's a special player.
I have to admit, though, that both my friend (alum) and I thought we were going to lose when Moose went out. But Arizona didn't have the size to take advantage of that, and our guys simple stepped up and took the game by the throat.
Just a great win, and one to do us proud!

Moose gets a whole lot of praise in this article. On the other hand, the writer down plays UA's ability.

"Bucknell isn't bad. C'mon, if you have followed the Pac-12 this season, you know bad when you see it, and Bucknell could play, or beat, most Pac-12 teams any night."
I found this the most interesting line in the article. Would we have been an above 500 team in this years PAC12?

More comments later but several quick takes:
1) best game we played this year considering travel, opponent, and disappointment level. Great execution.
2) when our guards penetrate, it opens up our offense. If our guards could finish at the hoop or flash the potential too, we would be a very dangerous team for anyone.
3) cohens defense on fogg was ungodly good.
4) muscala is really good. Really good. He lacks elite athleticism and in the NBA would be kind of a 4/5 tweener but I tell you what, he's as good a center I've seen play this year in D1.
5) Fitzpatrick looked lost in his limited minutes.

Great win!
Mike Muscala may not have been the PL Player of the Year, but he may have been the best player this year in the Pac-12...

While BU may well have been the better team last night, I think if you look at the two teams' performance over the full year that it is clear that Arizona was much stronger in total:
- Prior to the game, Arizona had a Pomeroy ranking about 50 spots higher than BU.
- Arizona was 4th in the PAC-12 with a 12-6 record and won two tournament games to get to the semis.
- Arizona was in Lunardi's group as one of the "last teams out" in terms of getting an NCAA at-large bid.
- Arizona has the following ooc wins on their resume: a 9 pt win at St Johns, a 7 pt road win over a good New Mexico State team, a 16 pt win over Clemson. Also 8 or 9 pt wins over Duquesne and Valpo.
- Their PAC-12 wins included: Oregon State, Cal (road), Stanford (road - 13 pts), Colorado (14 pts), UCLA, UCLA again (tournament), and Oregon State again (tournament). Cal and Colorado both made the NCAA, and Stanford and UCLA were both top 50 teams (Pomeroy).
So I have to think this win was an upset, albeit a well-earned one.

I see that the pregame reception has been set up at the Tucson Marriott. Any lucky ones planning on going to the game?
Yes, I'll be there, along with a friend who flew in from DC. GORGEOUS weather here in Tucson. I'll keep my eye out for you, BisonKid.
Hope your record improves
I didn't dare say it before, but my only other winless regular season was 2004-2005!
What a great night! Arizona has great fans...they got very loud and STOOD OFTEN!! (take note, Lewisburgers) Our hearty band of Bison fans and family was good and rowdy, too. A great experience for the team...a real road game at a great destination (unlike last year's bus trip to DC), big-name opponent, great game atmosphere.

I totally agree. While watching I kept saying to myself "We have to win this time - we are better than this team; Lehigh is better than this team. The better team won imho.

Absolutely. This is why it sort of irks me to read all of the nonsense that Kyle Fogg (among others) had to say after the game trying to rationalize the loss. Chalk it up to lack of preparation and motivation all you want, guys.

Not only that, but I find it incredibly disrespectful when teams say they only lost because they weren't motivated or prepared. That completely takes away from the team they played against, which, in this case, was the better team.

Plus, those comments tell a lot about the individuals making them. I'm also guessing that the coaching staff does not like to hear that their team felt they lacked motivation and preparation. Why not not just come out and say the coaches did not do their job?

One item that was discussed on the HC board was the BU defense after MM got his fourth foul. IMO a team should have a zone if they need to hide a star who has four fouls. If BU had a good 2-1-2/2-3 I would have liked to see it for a few possssions at that point. Things worked out well but it could have been different. It was painful to see MM foul out (even if it was a questionable foul) while being isolated on a smaller, quicker player.

Don't know if it was mentioned that Fogg - who was a 1st team All PAC-12 selection this year - was held to 5 points and 1 rebound in 37 minutes. In the 26 minutes he was guarded by Cohen, he had zero points.

I really hope we get to test that statement, given that Stanford may wait in the third round.
